LIHU‘E — The first day of school is Aug. 1, and teachers and educators report to work on July 26 as the school system prepares for the students’ return to classes.
The Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union ‘ohana is also preparing for back to school, first presenting a support award to the Back to School Bash that will take place at the Kukui Grove Center on July 16 in partnership with the Department of Education.
To assist the educators, The Hawai‘iUSA Foundation presented a $3,000 award to Kumu’s Cupboard founder and president Elyse Litvack “to keep the shelves stocked” with school supplies and other educational material for Kaua‘i educators.
“Kumu’s Cupboard is also helping with the Back to School Bash during its packing day, July 13,” Litvack said. “But we’re working to get Kumu’s Cupboard ready for the teachers who return to classes as early as July 26. We also have teachers working summer school.”
Since its opening in 2017, Kumu’s Cupboard has been supporting teachers kindergarten through Grade 12 in public, private, and charter schools, counselors, and educational assistants on the island.
Educators are able to shop for free, once a month for school supplies, office supplies, materials for art and science projects, and student incentives.
