HONOLULU — The Kapa‘a High School softball team, the reigning Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion, earned the No. 2 seed in the DataHouse Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II softball state championships that open Wednesday on Maui.
HONOLULU — The Kapa‘a High School softball team, the reigning Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion, earned the No. 2 seed in the DataHouse Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II softball state championships that open Wednesday on Maui.
The HHSAA made the announcement Saturday night following the results of a play-in contest between Waimea of the KIF and Damien Memorial School from the Interscholastic League of Honolulu at the McKinley High School on O‘ahu. The Menehune, according to a score posted on Scoring Live.com, ran over the Monarchs 17-5 in a contest shortened by the 10-run rule.
Waimea, with the win in the play-in contest, will open play Wednesday against Nanakuli at the Patsy Mink Field on Maui starting at 4:40 p.m.
The second-seeded Lady Warriors earn a bye on the tournament’s opening day, and will be in action at the quarterfinals against the winner of the Wednesday contest between Honoka‘a of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation and Aiea of the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association. The Thursday contest is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Patsy Mink Field.
Top seed for the DII softball tournament goes to the Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy. No. 3 seed goes to Waipahu High School, No. 4 seed is awarded to PAC-5, and Lana‘i gets the No. 5 seed, playing against Waialua High School Wednesday on Maui.
Also participating in the DII tournament are Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i and Kaimuki High School.
The championship game will play at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Patsy Mink Field.
