Audrey Ai Kawado
Audrey Ai Kawado, 76, passed away in Buffalo, New York, on Jan. 29, 2022. She was born in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i on March 23, 1945, and retired from the State of Hawai‘i as a social worker.
Audrey is survived by sons Nathan Kawado (Kenneth Shigematsu) of San Bruno, California, Noel Kawado of Mascot, Tenneseee, Aaron Kawado (Tricia) of Buffalo, New York, three grandchildren, sister Daphne McClure of Anahola, Kaua‘i, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Lihu‘e Christian Church; service at 10 a.m. While the thought is appreciated, please no koden or flowers.
Anthony Hubahib
Anthony Hubahib passed away on March 7, 2022.
He is survived by his wife Taiko Hubahib and his sister Rose Aluag.
Tony was born on the island of Kaua‘i to Emiliano and Florence Hubahib. He spent his youth exploring, fishing and taking adventures with his pet cat in the Hanapepe area. He learned how to play the trumpet and enjoyed music.
In 1956 he graduated from Waimea High School and joined the United States Air Force. He served his country at various Air Force Bases. He began his military career at Hickman AFB on O‘ahu. He then took a post at Misawa AFB in Japan. It was there that Tony met and married his wife, Taiko Nakura in 1965. It was also while stationed in Japan, Leona Ai Hubahib was born. Taiko and Leona moved to Hawai‘i while Tony served in Taiwan and Vietnam. Anthony was then reassigned to Lackland AFB in San Antonio.
After serving for several more years, he moved his family to Hawai‘i and was stationed for his final assignment at Hickman AFB. He retired in 1975 from the military.
Anthony will be missed by family and friends.
A memorial service for Anthony Hubahib will be on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 11 a.m. It will be held at the Kaua‘i Christian Fellowship, 2731 Ala Kinioki, Koloa, Kaua‘i.
Vivian Elena Remata Nonaka
Vivian Elena Remata Nonaka passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her husband, in the comfort of her home in Pakala, the morning of March 1, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother Crisanto and Vicenta Remata, brothers Teodorico (Flora) Remata, Edward (Berna) Remata, sister Sister Florence Remata and grandson Hunter Salvu Thelion Nonaka.
Vivian is survived by her husband Alvis T. Nonaka, daughters Nadine T. Silva, Noelle A. (Keusi) Nonaka-Thundah, son Nolan T. Nonaka, grandsons Levi-Drake C. Belcher, Yashua K. Nonaka, Kapono M. Nonaka, Kali T. Thundah, Raven K. Thundah, granddaughters Khai C. Silva, Logan K. Thundah, brothers David (Mercedes) Remata, Stanley (Norma) Remata, Richard Remata, Wildfred Remata, Lawrence (Donna) Remata, Patrick Remata, sisters Mildred (Bernardo) Olores, Elizabeth (Pat) Aquino, Hanai brother and sister Andy and Annette Asuncion, numerous generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vivian will be remembered as a woman who lived her every day with pure aloha in her heart, her feisty spirit and as Alvis’ “Silver Fox,” his “darling.”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Eulogy begins at 10 a.m., Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m.
