LIHU‘E — Household hazardous waste drop-off events are this Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This is a drop-off for items like paints, lead-acid car or alkaline and lithium batteries, flammable liquids, household cleaners or fluorescent lightbubs, for example, as well as televisions, latex or acrylic paint, tires or propane tanks.
The March 26 collection is at the county Hanapepe and Kapa‘a base yards, at 4380 Lele Road and 4900 Kahau Road, respectively.
The Sunday collection is at Anaina Hou Community Park in Kilauea, 5-2723 Kuhio Highway, and the Kaua‘i Resource Center at 3460 Ahukini Road in front of the Lihu‘e Refuse Transfer Station.
Refuse and electronic waste will not be accepted. This is for residential material drop-off only. Businesses, government agencies, nonprofits and farmers should not bring material here.
Refuse transfer stations and the Kekaha Landfill will be closed on March 26, in observance of the Prince Kuhio Day. Transfer stations and the landfill will resume operations on Sunday.
For questions or concerns, call the county Department of Public Works Solid Waste Office at 808-241-4841 or see kauai.gov/HHW.
