Wharf Rats squeak past Cane Cutters

LIHU‘E — The Ahukini Wharf Rats jumped to a 13-4 lead following four innings of play Friday at the Baniaga Division (ages 70 and better) of Kaua‘i Senior Softball League games at Isenberg Park.

John Patt of the Cane Cutters said in the fifth frame, Jim Bulloch walked and Barr Surles came up with a two-run homer “in the gap in right field.” The play sparked the Koloa boys, who drove in three additional runs before the frame ended on the five-run ruling.

The Cane Cutters added another five runs to open the sixth inning.

“But the rodents put two more on the board in the bottom of the fifth for the margin of victory, 15-14,” Patt said.

More senior softball is on tap starting with the super seniors taking the field at Isenberg Park, Fridays from 9 a.m.

Kaua‘i Senior Softball League games continue at both Puhi Park and the Sonoda Field in Kaumakani Saturday, when the first pitch goes at 9 a.m. at both locations.
