Gloria Jaramilla Purugganan
Gloria Jaramilla Purugganan of Pearl City, O‘ahu, left to be with the Lord on Jan. 12, 2022, at the age of 82, in Sammamish, Washington, surrounded by her loving family. Born to the late Eusebio and Maria Jaramilla in Mambog, Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was preceded in death by husband Nemesio Arcano Purugganan, sister Lydia Jaramilla Pascual and brother Melvin Jaramilla.
She began her career on Kauaʻi as a nurse’s aide at Wilcox Medical Center. After relocating to O‘ahu, she continued to serve as a nurseʻs aide at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu for 30 years. She always made an everlasting impression with those she worked with, and especially those she cared for. She retired at the age of 63.
She was a devout Catholic, and her strong faith in the Lord was the foundation on which she lived her life and raised her family. Her family was her absolute pride and joy. She enjoyed spending her retirement years visiting with her children and their families in Hawai‘i and across the United States. Her love for travel also took her to Asia and across Europe in more recent years.
Her positive nature and full-of-life kind of spirit gained her an incredible number of friends. She lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. She was an amazing source of uplifting spirit and energy to everyone who crossed her path in her life journeys. She loved to journal her days on camera, and there wasn’t anything she didn’t enjoy taking a photo of — her collection is vast. She captured many life experiences on camera, and enjoyed sharing those wonderful memories with everyone she met along the way.
Although her loss leaves a void, the beautiful memories she created and leaves behind will forever be cherished and bring comfort in our hearts.
She leaves behind her five children and 10 grandchildren: Hermes (Estrellita) Purugganan and their children Ashley and Katrina; Florian (Tess) Purugganan and their children Amanda and Austin; Ambrose (Marilyn) Purugganan and their children Kristen and AJ; Osmund (Jomonette) Purugganan and their child Genesis Mary; Billie (Jim) McCaffrey and their children James, Jourdan and Jennfier; and youngest sister Novie Jaramilla Peralta.
A celebration of life is Friday, Feb. 25, at Our Lady of Good Council Church, 1525 Waimano Home Road, Pearl City. Visitation with the familly will begin at 9:30 a.m. with Mass to commence at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at noon at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, 47-200 Kahekili Hwy., Kane‘ohe.
The family suggests aloha attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.
Michie N. Munechika
Michie N. Munechika passed away on Jan. 8, 2022 at the age of 84, in ‘Ele‘ele. She was born on Sept. 22, 1937 in Waimea and was a retired library technician at the Hanapepe Public Library.
She was preceded in death by mother Asae Kaneko, father Masaki Nishi, stepfather Katoru Kaneko, brother Tatsuo Nishi and son-in-law Myles Domingcil.
She is survived by husband Noboru Munechika of Lihu‘e, sons Mel Munechika of Kaua‘i and Guy (Julie) Munechika of O‘ahu, daughter Eve (Myles) Domingcil of Kaua‘i, grandchildren Natalie (Brandon) Wilson, Melissa (Joe) Cook, Bo (Nani) Domingcil, Aaron (Kyrie Simeona) Domingcil, Kai (Alexandria Yamada) Munechika and Drew (Hannah Garcia) Munechika, great-grandchildren Ethan and Ozzy Wilson, Joshua and Ava Cook, Trent and Sophie Domingcil, Hayden, Lily, Kahiau and Jesse Domingcil, sisters Kiyomi Nishi-Berry of Louisiana, Lena (Wesley) Tanaka of O‘ahu and Gail Kaneko of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe, with visitation at 11 a.m., followed by service at 11:15 a.m. The family has requested casual attire and no flowers.
For everyone’s health and safety of everyone and with no judgment, the family respectfully asks that those who attend the celebration of life be fully vaccinated, wear masks and follow other local COVID-19 protocols.
Robert Defuntorum Juliano
Robert Defuntorum Juliano, 47, of Puhi passed away at home on Jan. 16, 2022. He was born in Bacag Villasis, Pangasinan, Philippines, on Aug. 12, 1974.
He was preceded in death by parents Rodolfo and Hilaria Juliano, maternal grandparents Eduardo and Esmerenciana Defuntorum, and paternal grandparents Dionicio and Susana Derige Juliano.
He is survived by sons Nicholas Jesper G. Palmquist and Ashton J. Gambeng-Juliano, both of Oregon, siblings John D. Juliano, Julie Ann D. Juliano (Fredie) Ramos, Juanito D. (Maribel) Juliano, Mary Ann D. (Rolando) Ballesteros, Janette D. Juliano and Ferdinand D. (Madelyn) Juliano, aunts Leonida Defuntorum Leones and Leyte Juliano, and numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, March 5, at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, with viewing beginning at 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow. Social distancing and masks are rquired.

Monica Anohea Davis
Monica Anohea Davis passed away in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by family and friends, on Jan. 17, 2022. She was born on Nov. 14, 1968, in Waimea, and was an outreach specialist with Draco Services.
She was preceded in death by parent Richard Davis, grandparents Anderson and Sophie Kilauano, Henry Peralta Sr., William and Marilyn Mossman, and son Blaze Lopez.
She is survived by parents Glenn and Vida Mossman and Henry Peralta Jr., daughters Taylor (Brian) Imaoka and Ashlea Cacal, life-partner Colin Young, grandmother Trinidad Peralta, sister Kaulana Mossman, brothers Jason (Brandy) Peralta and Joshua (Darian) Peralta, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and friends.
Memorial services are Saturday, March 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kekaha, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by services. A private burial will occur at a future date. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19 and in the best interest of those in attendance, social distancing and masks are required.
Irene Puanani Yoshida
Irene Puanani Yoshida of Kapa‘a passed away on Jan. 28, 2022, at the age of 62. She was born in Lihu‘e on Oct. 11, 1959.
She was a talented musician and hula dancer. She loved Hawaiian music and everything Hawaiian. She was well known for her beautiful voice and smile. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by parents William and Beatrice Victorino, sisters Jennifer Victorino and Sharon Chang and brother Ali‘i Chang.
She is survived by husband Myles Yoshida, sons Kiawe Higa and Kaha‘i “Ehu” Higa, stepdaughter Shawna (Bronson) Giron, grandchildren Kian Lagmay Higa, Myah Giron and Gabriel Giron, sisters Yvonne Borges, Evelyn (Fred) Levinthol, Carol (Solomon) Lovell and Eileen Victorino, brother Willy Victorino, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
Mahalo to EMS and the Emergency Room staff in ICU at Wilcox Medical Center and mahalo nui loa to all who supported the ‘ohana during this difficult time.

Doris Yoshiko Momohara
Doris Yoshiko Momohara passed away on Jan. 20, 2022, at the age of 98, at home in Kalaheo. She was born on Feb. 1, 1923 in Honolulu. She was the vice president and accountant for Momohara Farms.
She was preceded in death by husband Stanley Momohara, parents Koku and Uto Shiroma, brothers David and George Shiroma and sisters Mildred Taira and Florence Miyahira.
She is survived by sons Daniel (Linda) Momohara of Kalaheo and Melvin Momohara of Kalaheo, daughter Suzette (Harvey Maeda) Momohara of Kalaheo, grandchildren Michelle (Pat) Funai, Matthew Momohara, Nathan (Kristin) Momohara, Kimberley (John) Medeiros, Kellyne Capuano, Kurt (Kimberly) Momohara and Kiley Momohara, great-grandchildren Camden Funai, Lily Momohara, John Medeiros, Jason Medeiros, Kaelin Capuano and Kichelle Momohara, great-great-grandchild Sofina Ann Mari Medeiros, hanai-granddaughter Tram (Travis) Dang-Oh, brother Edwin (Ida) Shiroma of Honolulu, sister Alice Chung of Kane‘ohe, caregivers Darlene Soares and Violet Gabai, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service will be held. The family requests no koden (monetary gift) or flowers.

Alicia Elisabeth Ka‘auwai
Alicia Elisabeth Ka‘auwai of Kapa‘a died at her home on Sept. 24, 2021, at the age of 85. She was born on Feb. 18, 1936 and was a retired state-government worker.
She was preceded in death by husband Kenneth “Bully” Hokumalamalama Ka‘auwai of Waipouli.
She is survived by sons Kenneth “Hoku” (Kamalu) Ka‘auwai of Kapa‘a and Jonah-Kuhio (Shari) Ka‘auwai of O‘ahu, daughter Michelle L. Efhan of Kapa‘a, hanai son Chad Kaupena Ka‘auwai, hanai daughter April Barba, grandchildren Cheri Nalani Efhan, Aaron-Jay Kahiki Ka‘auwai, Ethan Kanaloa Ka‘auwai, Elijah Hokumalamalama Ka‘auwai, Zion Kahekili Ka‘auwai, Ridge Kauila Ka‘auwai and Chloe Lilinoe Ka‘auwai, brother Eric (Marianne) Blunck and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service was previously held at the Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church.
