Arizona, the leader following the opening round, continues to lead with a combined 552, just three strokes ahead of 38th ranked New Mexico that ended Round 2 with a combined 555.
Arizona’s No. 1 golfer Christian Banke, improved from his Thursday showing to finish four-under 68. Sam Sommerhauser led Arizona’s performance by finishing with a six-under 66 and end the day tied for sixth place with Banke and fellow Arizona golfer Chase Sienkiewicz who finished Round 2 with a one-under 71 for a combined 138 following two days of play.
New Mexico was led by Brandon Shong finishing with a six-under 66 followed by Sam Choi finishing a stroke back at 67.
Tyler Ogawa, UH’s top individual, set the pace for Friday by finishing one-over 73, an improvement over his Thursday 74 round. Freshman Pierce Braun is two stroke back following a 75, Friday. Hawai‘i junior Zachary Sagayaga rebounded from an opening round 79 to finish Friday with a three-over 76.
Aaron Du of California holds the individual lead at 11-under 133 after finishing Round 2 with a 5-under 67. Shane Ffrench of USC follows three strokes back with a combined 136.
The John A. Burns Intercollegiate wraps up Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Hokuala Ocean Course.
