LIHU‘E — Friday, the Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported two fatalities and 39 new cases of COVID-19.
One fatality was a male resident in his 60s who was hospitalized. The second fatality was a female resident in her 70s who was also hospitalized.
“It’s with a heavy heart to announce two more fatalities from COVID-19. We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of these individuals,” Mayor Derek Kawakami said in a release. “We are also grateful to our health care workers who have been at the forefront in response to this disease, and who continue to provide excellent care for our entire community. We thank you for your service, compassion, and aloha.”
Kaua‘i has a total of 26 COVID fatalities to date.
Friday’s cases bring the number of active, recorded cases to 147, with three hospitalized. According to the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency, two are in the intensive care unit.
To date, the county has recorded 11,687 cumulative cases.
Today, Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i hosts a pop-up vaccine clinic at Kanuikapono Public Charter School in Anahola from 9 to 11 a.m. This walk-in clinic is open to everyone age 5 and older. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
A mobile van offering free rapid PCR COVID-19 tests is at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
