LIHU‘E — Tuesday, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported nine new cases of COVID-19. All of these cases are residents, including one child and eight adults.
LIHU‘E — Tuesday, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported nine new cases of COVID-19. All of these cases are residents, including one child and eight adults.
Two of the cases are related to mainland travel. The remaining seven cases are considered community-acquired. Three of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of a previously announced case or are tied to an active cluster. The remaining four cases have no known source of infection.
“While the omicron variant has not yet been detected here on Kaua‘i, the Department of Health has identified recent events on O‘ahu and in New York as risk factors for exposure to the variant,” Kaua‘i District Health Officer Dr. Janet Berreman said.
“Anyone on Kaua‘i who recently traveled and attended either a Christ Embassy Hawai‘i event or the recent New York Anime Convention is encouraged to be tested as soon as possible. Please do not delay testing by waiting to hear from the Department of Health,” she said.
Yesterday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 110, with nine hospitalized.
To date, the county has recorded 3,285 cumulative cases.
Free testing is available at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A free, mobile-testing van is available for walk-ins from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center today. The Wilcox Medical Center pediatric clinic is open Tuesday and Thursday for vaccinations. Appointments are required. Visit wilcoxhealth.org/vaccine to make appointments. The clinic for children ages 5 to 11 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea is open today from 2 to 5 p.m. Walk-ins are accepted at KVMH and no appointments are needed.
Kaiser Permanente’s Lihu‘e Clinic accepts walk-ins or advance appointments for vaccinations for everyone 5 and up. Appointments are available at kp.org.
All adults are now eligible for booster doses of vaccines.
