Due to a life-threatening injury in a near-fatal accident a few years ago, Paloma now suffers from a shoulder injury that often limits her mobility.
Despite these injuries, she has a positive attitude each day, and shares that with others through inspirational quotes.
Paloma lives alone on a fixed income, which limits her resources to medication, toiletries and food.
This holiday season, Palona would be so appreciative to have warm clothing, fresh, healthy food options and toiletries to meet her basic needs.
Although Paloma counts her blessings daily and has a positive outlook on life, any assistance would raise her spirits this season. She is just one person who is facing challenges this holiday season.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund, let us know and we’ll spread the word. Anyone making a donation of $150 or more can have their picture published in TGI.

• Keala has an intellectual disability and works part-time. Despite this, he still struggles to budget his check, prepare meals and grocery shop alone. Keala enjoys riding his bike in the community, hanging with his family and working. Keala could use household items and new pair of shoes.
• Stacy is a strong young woman who knows what she wants and works towards her goals all while being active, shopping and socializing. Stacy has a mild intellectual disability, but it doesn’t stop her from playing sports, being dedicated to her Bible studies and hanging out with her friends. Stacy would be smitten with a blessing of any kind, but possibly a new planner or materials to keep herself organized. She would also benefit from some new tennis shoes, as she is an avid walker.
