LIHU‘E — Friday, the Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 20 new cases of COVID-19.
These cases are all residents.
Of the 20 new cases, four are children and 16 are adults.
Five of the cases are related to mainland travel. The remaining 15 cases are considered community-acquired. Eleven of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of a previously announced case or are tied to an active cluster. The remaining four cases have no known source of infection, including one whom investigators have been unable to reach after repeated attempts or who has refused to provide information.
“Children ages 5 to 11 years old are now eligible to be vaccinated, and vaccinations for keiki are available at multiple sites around the island. For vaccination site locations, visit www.kauai.gov/vaccine,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, Kaua‘i District Health Officer. “With the holidays coming, now is a great time to protect keiki and families by getting them vaccinated.”
Friday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 101, with six hospitalized. There have been 2,794 cumulative cases recorded on Kaua‘i to date.
Testing sites this weekend
A free mobile testing van is available for walk-ins from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center on Saturday and the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex in Kapa‘a on Sunday. Testing performed through the mobile testing van is rapid PCR. Same-day results are sent via email.
Free drive-thru testing is also available daily at Lihu‘e Pharmacy Group, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are highly recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. For an appointment, register online at PreventCOVIDHI.com or call (808) 635-4968.

Vaccination sites this weekend
A free mobile vaccination van will be open from noon to 3 p.m. at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center on Saturday, offering vaccines to anybody 12 and older. Walk-ins accepted.
Ho‘ola Lahui will be at Kanuikapono Public Charter School in Anahola and at Kaumakani Community Hall from 9 to 11 a.m. at both locations today.
