Autumn (that’s the name she allowed the newspaper to print), who just got here from Oregon, came out to complete the National Federation of the Blind sign-waving for White Cane Day Friday in front of Kuhio Medical Center on Kuhio Highway in Lihu‘e.

The Kaua‘i Lions Club (they cleaned up the Wailua Houselots pavilion of staples, tacks and other embedded fasteners Sunday!) and the East Kaua‘i Lions Club also paricipated in the campaign, as the traditional walk could not be held due to COVID-19 precautions (mahalo for letting the Alzheimer’s Garden grow during the Kaua‘i Alzheimer’s Walk!).
More kudos for helping Rowena Contrades-Pangan and the Hale Ho‘omalu crew, Mischa of Aloha ‘Aina (those Aloha Friday Mo‘olelo Murals artists Holly Ka‘iakapu, Bethany Coma and Brie Blake had Aloha ‘Aina break snacks courtesy of Lexi Jones!) who came up with the Friday meal during the help day event where Project Vision Hawai‘i team members were held to just vision screening and other tasks while waiting on parts for the Hi‘ehi‘e mobile shower. And kudos to Rowena for getting the Hale Ho‘omalu plumber to jury-rig a temporary shower unit.
A huge mahalo to Laurie Yoshida, Stephanie Iona and the many hands for getting the 4,000 (yes, they were all grown in Kekaha by Corteva Agriscience and Hartung Brothers) pumpkins out for keiki from Hanalei to Kekaha (yes, Stephanie didn’t forget to get pumpkins to the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation football game at Hanapepe Stadium or the vaccine clinic at the Kanuikapono Charter School in Anahola!).
More pumpkins go out today at the Pau Hana Market starting at 3 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center. Go early for best selection!
