Laverne Mikiyo Kodama-Yokoi
Laverne Mikiyo Kodama-Yokoi of Wailua Houselots passed away on Aug. 4, 2021, at the age of 77. She was born on Feb. 13, 1944, and was a retired office worker.
She was preceded in death by parents Shoichi and Kimiko Kodama, husband Ronald Yokoi, brother Ben Kodama and sister Karen Yamamoto.
She is survived by stepdaughters Amber (John) Bird and Miko (Adam) Yokoi, step-grandchildren Siena and Simone Bird, brothers-in-law James Yamamoto, Royden (Betty) Yokoi and Gordon Yokoi, and sisters-in-law Ann Kodama and Vera Yokoi.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, Sept. 4.
The family requests that, in lieu of koden (monetary gift)s, flowers be placed when convenient at her final place of rest at Lihu‘e Cemetery. Details will be provided at the visitation. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face masks are required.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Michael Roland Akuna
Michael Roland Akuna, 45, of Hanapepe, passed away on Aug. 12, 2021 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital. He was born on O‘ahu on Aug 23, 1975, and did masonry work and landscaping on Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in death by his significant other, Yolanda Teves.
He is survived by mother Ermine Akuna, sisters Coty (James) Hensley, Bernadene Lancaster, Cheyenna Akuna and Shania Akuna, brothers Bernard Lancaster Jr., Kyle (Latasha) Lancaster, Levi (Jaylin) Lancaster, James McMahan and Shylo Akuna, and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunties and cousins.
A celebration of life is at The Salvation Army Hanapepe Corps on Saturday, Sept. 11, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Due to COVID-19, face masks and social distancing are required.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lindbergh M. ‘Lindy’ Akita
Lindbergh M. “Lindy” Akita, CEO and former president and manager of Akita Enterprises, Ltd. for 60 years, peacefully passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Aug. 28, 2021.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Wendy, daughter Yolanda Blevins, son Lin, grandchildren Natalie (Rex) Webb and Kekoa (Margarita) Blevins, great-grandchildren Ethan, Brooktyn, Tyler, Blake, Athena and Alexander, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, sisters Eleanor Mihal and Alice Zenger and brother Norman Akita.
The family is deeply indebted to his caregivers Imee, Grace, Elsie, Alex, Beverly, Gloria, Maria and the many others who gave him tender loving over the past year.
Private services will be held at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Rufino Vicente Pascual
Rufino Vicente Pascual passed away on Aug. 10, 2021, at the age of 65. He was born in Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Aug. 12, 1955. He served in the Army National Guard and retired in housekeeping from Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort.
He was preceded in death by parents Mariano Maximo and Regina Vicente Pascual, sisters Gloria Pascual Domingo, Agustina Vicente Pascual and Aida Pascual Villanos, and brother Francisco Vicente (Martina Pascual Nishizawa) Pascual.
He is survived by wife Susan Lapitan Pascual, children Royden, Shyleen (Jordan) and Ashley, sisters Florencia Pascual (Alfredo, deceased) Casticimo, Virginia Pascual (Francisco, deceased) Lucas, Julia Pascual and Elsa Pascual (Amado) Caballero, brothers Esteban (Olivia, deceased) Pascual and Gerardo (Rafaela) Pascual, and grandchildren Sophia and Olivia Bucacas.
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 3, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. Borthwick Kaua’i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
