Eunice Midori Olivas
Eunice Midori Olivas passed away on Aug. 3, 2021 at the age of 74 in Honolulu,
She was born on March 12, 1947 in Lihu‘e. She was a retired teacher of Kalaheo School.
She was preceded in death by husband Athmore Dexter Olivas and son Kyle Athmore Olivas.
She is survived by son Jon Olivas of Kalaheo, daughter Jamie (Justin Shanks) Olivas of Kapa‘a, daughter-in-law Aisha Olivas of Mililani, hanai daughter/niece Christie Olivas of Kalaheo, grandchildren Keenan “Nohili” Olivas, Kyren “Wa‘a” Olivas, Kala‘i Chong, Makoa Chong, Kaimana Chong, Makali‘i Chong and Nickolaus Olivas, parents Minoru and Kiyoko Kubota, brothers Jerry (Caleen) Kubota of Kapa‘a, Allan (Nelly) Kubota of Utah, Kenneth (Cheryl) Kubota of Kapa‘a and Bobbie (Lyn) Kubota of Wailua, sisters Bernice (Roy) Hashimoto of ‘Ele‘ele, and Joyce (Glen-deceased) Kaneshiro of Honolulu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Saturday, Aug. 28, at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., and celebration of life to follow. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and face masks are required.

Glenn Shimazu
Glenn Shimazu passed away on March 9, 2021, at the age of 73. He was born May 29, 1947 in Hanapepe. He retired as a mechanic for the state of Hawai‘i.
He was preceded in death by father Motoa Shimazu and stepfather Kaoru Taogoshi.
He is survived by son James Shimazu of Kapahi, daughter Suanne Shimazu of Wailua, grandchild Caleb Shimazu, mother Alice Taogoshi, brother Russell (Lisa) Shimazu of Lihu‘e, sister Georgiana (Randall) Matsumoto of O‘ahu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and masks are required.

Calvin ‘Kelly’ Rita
Calvin “Kelly” Rita passed away on Aug. 18, 2020, at the age of 69, in Bennett, Colorado.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1950 in Lihu‘e. He was a U.S. Army veteran and heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by parents Adam Costa Rita and Harriet Kure and brothers Tony Rita and Edwin Rita.
He is survived by wife Louella Rita, sons Edwin Rita of Makawao, Maui and Galvin (Kathryn) Rita of Bennett, Colorado, daughter Kelliann (Leland Ibara) Rita of Kalaheo, grandchildren Rylan and Randen Rita and Sloane and Cal Ibara, brother Adam (Judit) Rita, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is at Garden Island Mortuary Saturday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. followed by a celebration of life. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required.

George R. Coates
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George R. Coates, 72, on July 31, 2021. George was born in Alameda, California on Oct. 1, 1948. He moved from California to live in Hawai‘i, where he met his wife and raised their two children.
They lived in Hawai‘i for over 40 years until they moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2011. George loved the outdoors, especially bird hunting with his two German shorthaired dogs. He enjoyed working on projects around the house and was proud to have built several homes in his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his father Wayne B. Coates and his mother Clara A. Schveiger. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Joanne Farias Coates, two sons, Jeremiah K. Coates and Joshua K. Coates, two grandchildren, Danielle Coates and Jeremiah K. Coates Jr. Other family members include a brother Gene (Vicki) Coates, two sisters, Joyce Moulden and Jeanette (Steven) Shade, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
