LIHU‘E — Friday, the state’s Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office recorded the county’s fourth COVID-19-related fatality and announced 39 new cases.
The fatality was a male Kaua‘i resident in his 70s who was hospitalized on Kaua‘i and had underlying health conditions.
“We are sad to report the island’s fourth fatality from COVID-19, and we extend our sincerest warmth and prayers to the family, friends, and loved ones for this tragic loss,” Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami said in a release.
Friday’s cases consist of three visitors and 36 residents.
Of the 39 cases, 10 are children and 29 are adults.
Seven of the cases are related to mainland travel. The remaining 32 cases are considered community-acquired. Twenty-six of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of previously announced cases or are tied to one of our active clusters. The remaining six community-acquired cases have no known source of infection.
All active cases are in isolation, and close contacts are being identified, offered testing, and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.
“Please wear a mask whenever you are indoors in public places, or in crowded outdoor settings,” said Kaua‘i District Health Officer Dr. Janet Berreman. “If you are sick, please stay home and arrange to get tested. If you have traveled recently, please consider getting tested. Mask and testing are important whether or not you have been vaccinated. And of course, if you have not yet been vaccinated I hope you will consider doing so.”
On Kaua‘i, booster dose vaccinations are walk-in only for the following on Saturday, one at Wilcox Medical Center from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; and the other at Hanalei Neighborhood Center from noon to 3 p.m.
Friday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 215, with two hospitalized, and 880 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 826 confirmed locally, eight probable, and 46 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
If we are at 60% vaccinated and we have 880 people who have acquired natural immunity, that brings us to almost 70% of the island population who are protected in one way or another. And yes, we should be counting the naturally acquired immunity because it’s even longer lasting than the vaccine in terms of efficacy.

truthbeknown: yes he’ll have the disease and be immune, but by the time he knows this he will have just infected several other people. It’s an infectious disease and that’s how it propagates. As humans we’re supposed to be smarter than this. When we get VACCINATED no one else gets sick! And the disease is not propagated for each person vaccinated.
Dr. Bpb, perhaps you haven’t seen the current stats from Israel, 90% of the population vaccinated and 85% of the people who have been hospitalized there were fully vaccinated. How can you say that if you are vaccinated that you won’t get sick or transmit the disease? A New England Journal of Medicine study yesterday (July 19, 2021) details breakthrough COVID-19 infections in 39 of 1,497 fully vaccinated Israeli healthcare workers, with most cases mild or moderate but 19% with symptoms lingering for more than 6 weeks. Using healthcare workers to represent the general population is like using chickens to represent the bird population. Try to find stats on the general hospital population as it relates to COVID vaccinated patients in Israel. I tried posting an actual interview with the head of a major hospital in Israel who stated that 85% of the patients in his hospital were fully vaccinated patients and it was his opinion that the vaccines were losing effectiveness rapidly. For some reason that reference was deleted by TGI.
I am doubting that either of “Dr.” Marry or Weiner “MD” are actual doctors. As both of them lack the critical understanding that these vaccines do not prevent the spread of the virus! The manufacturers have been clear – they make the symtpoms milder.

Why don’t the HDOH or County published the names of those infected so the general public are aware and know how to avoid these people. As it is, those who are positives are told to self-quarantine, self-isolate. But how do we know they are complying 100%. Some albeit go about their usual routines, that is, going to the mall, Costco, super markets, etc. If the public know who they, if they are up and about someone will likely know the person and say, you know you are COVID positive, you are not suppose to be here or anywhere except your home.
Are you actually a doctor? That’s incredibly ignorant and a violation of a patient’s right to privacy. You should know this. Do you think they just tell everyone who has cancer or HIV?

I believe those who have no financial gain from the man made release of a virus. This Covid 19 was made and paid for by the National Institute of Health through a shell company named EcoHealth in a lab in Wuhan China. The reason they moved the research a creating of this virus was to satisfy United States law and codes that prevent the making of these kinds of viruses and the possible penalties for doing so. Last 10 days of County reporting shows a total of 249 positive, of which 81 are travel related (32.5%), 131 cluster related (52.6%), and 37 unknown (14.9%) so while travel brings it here, it is being spread by the community. Very sorry for the families loss. Never is easy. But we need to state facts. A 70 year old with underlying health conditions dying after getting sick is not a tragic loss. It is a sad, unwanted, and difficult loss. If we as a community can not agree and understand that we all die, and most of us after 70 with underlying health conditions, then we are likely to not live during the time we have here on earth. Robin, you just proved your own point. The experimental mRNA spike protein “jab” as it’s called is not classified as a vaccine, even by its makers, Pfizer and Moderna. It is a synthetic, man-made substance, modified ribo-nucleic acid, along with questionable added ingredients. A vaccine, on the other hand, contains either weakened or killed viruses of the disease in question. The mRNA shot has neither, thus classifying it as an experimental substance without proper testing, that has yet to be fully approved by the FDA as safe and effective. With over 45,000 deaths and 500,000 injuries attributed to the mRNA shots thus far, the FDA will be hard pressed to approve it. The SARS experimental vaccine was shut down after 24 deaths in the trials. If the FDA actually approves this experiment, then, in my opinion, they will have lost all credibility as an effective agency.
