When Hawai‘i First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige came to read aloud to the community’s keiki, the microphone system (yes, it was used during the Waimea Envision 400 talk story, too!) was a result of the grant, and a greatly-needed enhancement to meeting under the shade of the milo tree. And, there is more to come, because there’s still time to get involved with the summer reading program, or register keiki for the – “Ohana Readers program for youngsters from 0 to 4.5 years who live in Waimea or Kekaha.
Dickie Chang (greetings, Dr. Robert Zelchovsky!) always knows how to make a big splash when he and Kaua‘i Museum director Chucky Boy Chock (yes, and Lyah Kama-Drake, too!) arranged to “crash” the museum’s Board of Trustees meeting where Maryanne Kusaka was surprised (appeared that Steve Soltysik was just as surprised as Aunty Maryanne) with the museum’s decision to name the new exhibit hall Waimakua (the Pa‘u rider exhibit is still there!) after her. And, the package wouldn’t be complete without the kolohe antics of Dickie’s band that included Sue Kanoho (she didn’t get the memo), Beth Tokioka, and Gini Kapali. Congratulations, all!
