Jade Oswald, left, (kumu Leilani Rivera Low said she has homes in Utah, Kaua‘i and Japan) and Leilani sew lei as a fundraiser for the Relay For Life Pop-up and Pick-up Saturday at the Coconut Marketplace in Waipouli.

The Stuffed Mochi gang upped its mochi production so they won’t run out so soon Saturday at the Grove Farm Market near the company’s Puhi headquarters.

Happy birthday, Jaslyn Aquias, who started her special day at the Relay For Life Pop-Up &Pick-Up (kudos to Patti Ornellas and all those Fely’s Angels on a great event — even if it rained!) at the Coconut Marketplace in Waipouli, where you should’ve seen the collection of crystals being made available by the Ho‘oikaika Volleyball Club. Members are so excited about being back in practice again!

Shiori Yoshiko Chow was too busy with her corn dog, so Liana Moke had to explain about the sand-proof, quick-dry towels (Liana said it’s like a chamois for the body) that were available at Yoshiko’s table, set up next to artist Lora Finelli, who set and did live painting… wow! More than 20 vendors!

The whole event was reminiscent of an actual Relay except it was daytime and there was no track to Relay on. Patti said following more than a year of doing virtual, Zoom and satellite events, the Relay team (yeah, Fely’s Angels are chomping at the bit) is ready to go back live.

The long down time of more than a year meant there were lots of flowers for kumu Leilani Rivera Low to sew, and for kumu Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza’s Kamehameha Day presentation to honor and keep the culture alive.

Jakki Nelson said the crowd at the Grove Farm Market came early (yeah, the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Branch team already left right after the market opened). They must’ve been headed to Kukui Grove Center, where Wes Kaui and Anson Lardizabal took the stage with aunty Kapu and Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani performers (all ages from 3 and up!) for an exciting, colorful event that, if you were a visitor and didn’t make it, you missed out since it was free ninety-nine!
