Maybe time to rethink election process
Gary Hooser is to be commended for his concern over the number of women on the Kaua‘i County Council.
It is interesting to note that all of his examples of political bodies which have elected higher percentages of women — state Senate, state House of Representatives, county councils on all of the other islands — have one thing in common: They elect their officials by districts! What does that tell the citizens of Kaua‘i?

Contraflow could use some revisions
Has anyone looked at shortening up the contraflow hours?
For one thing, we aren’t yet at full visitor load, with about 70% of the pre-COVID travelers. Plus, we have a severe shortage of rental cars, yet the backup coming into Kapa‘a in the late morning now exceeds reasonable delays with non-moving gridlock.
Possibly the cones could be picked up earlier to facilitate better flow. I shudder to think what the situation will look like when the visitor counts rise further and more rental cars than now are on the road. What a mess the Eastside traffic nightmare is on our tiny road due to Kaua‘i’s serious lack of planning and past approval of large construction projects.
Fortunately, the HoKua Place project of 769 residents will not be built and will not be adding further to this problem.

Do you have any suggestions? I forgot who was in the county council. I think districts on Kauai would be too small area. It really depends if they are qualified too. What if they just want to run? Just let it on. Same thing for males. Women probably is more mild. Taste and preferences. I’ll go with the pay yet. It works out here.
If anything contra flow should go later. The traffic is bad leaving kapaa going to lihue when there is no contraflow. The traffic going the other way is only backed up when traffic through kapaa town is backed up from people driving 5 mph. Contra flow isn’t effecting that.
I agree with Huh, definatly need contraflow till at least 1pm every day, like S
aturdays.
I think we should thank the really smart highway projects planning people for having not 1 but 3 construction projects going on at the same time on both ends of Kapaa! What an achievement of planning and execution of projects that should have been done 20 years ago. Simply outstanding. We now can enjoy Kapaa Crawl not only southbound but northbound as well.
In the meantime the views at the Opaeka’a outlooks are simply beautiful, if you could see anything but overgrown bushes and trees. Anyone notice the people standing on the wall to get a peak of the Wailua? Simply outstanding.
