LIHU‘E — Online registration for the 2021 Keiki and Junior Lifeguard programs will begin on Monday, May 3, and the Kaua‘i Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau has added ‘Anini Beach Park to the list of locations where the program will be held.
LIHU‘E — Online registration for the 2021 Keiki and Junior Lifeguard programs will begin on Monday, May 3, and the Kaua‘i Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau has added ‘Anini Beach Park to the list of locations where the program will be held.
The program is free, and will be scaled down, with more classroom teaching, live-rescue demonstrations and social distancing during physical-fitness exercises.
The Keiki Lifeguard Program is available to children ages 8 to 11 who can swim and run 50 yards nonstop.
The Junior Lifeguard Program is open to youth ages 12 to 17 who can swim and run 100 yards nonstop.
Masks and social distancing are required.
The free program runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates and sites:
• June 22 to 24, at Salt Pond Beach Park;
• July 13 to 15, at Hanalei Bay;
• July 20 to 22, Anini Beach Park;
• July 27 to 29, at Kalapaki Beach.
