Valentine’s Day took on a new twist this year because of the health and safety guidelines from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kupuna in the various Kaua‘i Senior Center programs as well as its hosting county Department of Parks and Recreation took Valentine’s Day on the road to service more than 200 kupuna in various communities around the island.
“They started coming early,” said James Kealalio of the Department of Parks and Recreation. “Some were here from as early as 8 a.m. for the gates that opened at 10:30 a.m.”
The Department of Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with Lisa Johnston and Super Duper Two and the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Branch delivered bento, ice cream and food and personal-care packages to the community neighborhood centers for kupuna in those communities.
Kupuna received their goodies in a drive-thru, no-contact fashion.
This substituted for the annual Valentine’s Day party, where the kupuna would gather at one site for a day of fellowship, fun and lunch.
“This is too cute,” said Michelle Correa of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
“They’re all wearing red and are dressed up for Valentine’s Day partying. The most important thing is they’re participating in the event.”
At the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center Friday, Mayor Derek Kawakami, accompanied by the Parks and Recreation Director Patrick Porter, wrapped up the week-long distribution of Valentine’s Day goodies by passing out bento and offering personal greetings to each carload that rolled through the drive-thru, where kumu hula aunty Bev Muraoka and her hula dancers that included seniors Pat Moura and Marilyn Matsumoto entertained their fellow kupuna.

If he doesn’t get this island up soon we’re all gonna end up in the bread Line. I hope the next one he’s giving a portion of that sweet cash he’s and his family been banking for the last 11months to slow the spread.
If these kupuna in the photos are so fragile and virus susceptible as to our need to fear their infection and well being, and still the Mayor is demanding a 10 day quarantine effectively shutting down the our island’s largest commercial business, tourism, then why are they calling the bento food line a “no contact delivery” when the window in the car is down and Derek is passing the bento box through the window with bare hands (contaminated?) and in his right hand is the napkin and plastic cutlery, a sure method of virus transmission via the bento box; and the napkin will go right to the lips (wipe) of the kupuna who gets the “lucky” napkin with the virus in it.
And even if Derek did not contaminate the napkin what about the server that passed the bento and napkin to Derek, and following the chain of handling from the source of the bento and napkin and cutlery to the kupuna. Who has the virus? And who gets it next?
Why is the Mayor taking a chance passing food bare handed to the high risk elderly who surely have the typical elderly diseases as well as their taking the numerous toxic and lethal drugs. Why is the Mayor ignoring safety and sanitary protocol, after all he is fearing the death of the elderly, by a destructive 10 day quarantine and here he himself may be the direct cause of transmission.
The Mayor’s bare handed transfer is called potential and risky virus exposure transmission which leads to infection, which in addition the kupuna may easily have 2 or more usual, and typical for their age, chronic degenerative end of life diseases combined with the usual toxic and lethal numerous (4?) prescription drugs.
Both the multiple diseases and taking prescription drugs and being elderly at 70 to 109 years old are all mandatory conditions to qualify and die frozen being infected with the virus as has been shown by every statistic for deaths of every person who died from the Covid virus here in Hawaii.
Apparently you cannot die from the virus alone, the virus must have the pre-existing diseases and prescription drugs and be elderly.
The virus for the high risk elderly may be just the “straw (virus) that broke the camel’s back” resulting in a Covid or mutated virus variant DEATH of an elderly Kaua’i resident from something as simple as passing a bento box and napkin and plastic cutlery contaminated by a bare handed full contact delivery into the waiting hands of the kupuna…from our own Mayor hisself.
If Mayor Derek, we love you brother, has no worry of virus spread with his bare handed food transfer then why the quarantine and business and family destruction as a result of the quarantine?
Or because the kupuna were not wearing masks, what about the kupuna transmitting the virus to the Mayor, and from him to the other food distribution helpers or to his own family and then to their family and friends. S P R E A D…!
You can see the similar situation, when the vaccine is administered, is it injected with a new pair of sanitary gloves for every injected person ?
It would be terrible, if the virus is as bad as they say, to get infected when getting the vaccine.
Hey those Kupuna are not 6’ or even 6” apart. Amd the ones in the car aren’t wearing masks, maybe too tough to care, or too healthy.
The scientists at Merck Pharmaceutical have said their 2 virus vaccines had to be pulled from the market due to dangerous side effects, and now recommend it is safer to get the actual live virus and naturally develop your own natural immunity and become NON-Contagious with your own Immune System process.
AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical’s vaccine is using Chimpanzee (monkey) virus. That sounds macabre and bizaar
And Pfizer Moderna Pharmaceutical companies injection is not a vaccine but due to no testing is registered as an Experimental Gene Therapy since they are injecting manmade laboratory untested Genes into the people.
And while injection stations do monitor the injected people for 15 minutes, there is no protocol to monitor the effects of the Gene Therapy over the next few years, the amount of time necessary to monitor untested genes for side effects.
It would be horrible to develop monkey traits like walking on your knuckles, and develop body hair…LOL.
At least we know the vaccines are no joke.
It’s nice to see Mayor Derek sharing those little bento snacks and ice cream while helping to spread the Covid-19 virus with High Risk seniors, who apparently 3 out 4 disregard wearing masks, and none of whom respecting the 6’ separation much less 6” of separation.
Further the pictures showed at least one other super high risk for Covid, an obese person who seemed to be either helping the spread or was there for bento. Obese people deserve to be educated as to diet and lifestyle. They deserve to be saved before they get the virus. A stitch in time saves 9.
Mask wearing denies, especially our youth the opportunity to make new friendships, and the all important lifetime relationship leading to marriage and family, because of being hidden behind ineffective deceptive masks..
In effect the Quarantine has, or is, causing:
1. students loss of vital education,
2. families in Great Depression era like “bread (bento) lines”,
3. life long businesses closed or closing,
4. families in fear of hunger and future housing,
5. children wearing worthless ineffective masks that let virus enter or spread depending on whether you are inhaling or exhaling the virus onto your “steamed” up glasses…masks that make people think “we’re all gonna die !”. And what do little think is going on while oxygen depraved.
Due to this Senseless OverKILL Quarantine,
6. people ARE losing their mortgaged homes, cars, trucks, rental housing, Health Insurance, etc., etc., including not gaining a friendship or lifelong relationship as God intends, as we are hidden behind our masks
7. being unable to afford nutritious food thus lowering the capability of own immune systems to protect ourselves from Covid or it’s mutated variant.
8. Astoundingly more people die from drowning and skateboarding on Kauai than the Covid19 virus, while the Mayor has provided an extremely popular all concrete skateboard park where less than 1 out of 20 youth wear a safety helmet, and no railings to prevent kids falling off the ramps’ waiting decks, whose popularity of traffic on little wheels exceeds Kuhio Highway traffic at normal non-Quarantine Christmas time. County owned skateboard park not enforcing helmet requirements with danger of head injury staring them blindly in the face as youth do not see the dangers emergency room doctors know all to well. Professional skateboarders all wear helmets, but not our precious kids.Perhaps out of work parent cannot afford helmets.
9. Covid in Hawaii is obviously dangerous for people who died between ages of 70 and 109, on the other islands, 109 they claim, that’s bizaar.
10. while on Kauai in almost 1 year the virus has sent only 7 people too hospital, out of 72,000 residents, as in 1 person for every 10,000 of us.
11. 1 false report Covid death of an 85 year old cancer patient, amd less than 200 people tested positive (with a type of test proven to make at least 30% false positives),
12. yet, 100% of these people recovered,
13. and it is believed as many as 60% or higher of our island residents have been infected already with Covid but were asymptomatic,
14. while soaps, cleansers, and hand sanitizers don’t kill virus,
15. and anyone wearing a mask reduces their oxygen intake by 25%, all that mask wearing time with reduced oxygen going to our lungs, to our bloodstreams, to our vital organs, the reduced oxygen intake and reduced oxygen delivery to our organs causes accelerated degeneration to our organs resulting in child retarded mental and physical development, and increased chronic degenerative End-of-Life diseases, using for treatment false dependency on toxic and lethal prescription drugs,
16. and early off island deaths conveniently blamed on the Covid virus, causing unprecedented fear of death
17. leading up to untested dangerous vaccines
18. multiple pharmaceutical companies vying for sales of wild experimental untested vaccines
19. which have caused numerous deaths already
20. and the side effect of the vaccines are the same as the Covid virus
21., except the virus and its variants don’t give you a sore arm.
22. and the vaccine companies have issues: Pfizer Moderna were unable to even register with the FDA as a vaccine but were allowed only to register as an Experimental (untested) Gene Therapy (injecting man made untested laboratory genes into people),
23. making humans for the first time Genetically Modified Organisms or GMO’d people.
24. AstraZeneca was able to register as a vaccine with the FDA, because they were able ro prove their vaccine was injecting Chimpanzee (monkey) virus into people.
25.Merck Pharmaceutical pulled their 2 vaccines off the market claiming both that their vaccines had too many side effects,
26. and their scientists determined that it was safer to be naturally infected by the actual Covid virus and have ones own immune system perform their natural immune process causing only zero to mild symptoms,
27. but makes the individual immune (protected from future infection)
28. and also NON-Contagious (unable to spread the virus to others because they have already deactivated all the virus in their body,
29.being immune and NON-Contagious makes a person automatically a part of Herd Immunity in the population,
30. wherein when too many people are thankfully immune and the virus cannot survive being unable to find a person not imune and thus the virus runs out of people that can be infected and thus ends every year each seasons spread of the virus.
31. The attempts to stop the spread of the virus, including Quarantine measures has resulted in not enough people having Herd Immunity to stop the virus spread.
32. Scientists believe all the precautions to stop the spread, i.e., mask, 6’ distances, washing your hands frequently, and Quarantines, have actually helped the virus remain in the population by not letting it be deactivated by enough people’s natural Immune Systems thus preventing more people from becoming Herd Immune.
The Quarantine on Kauai is not only slaughtering:
33. the community businesses,
34. people”s livelihoods,
35. failed huge demand on unemployment payments
36., increasing the homeless,
37. stunting childhood oxygen deprived mental and physical development
38.as well as youth education,
39. but also the Quarantine is trying to protect the high risk seniors whose 80’s and 90’s age groups appear to not need protecting based on Kaua’i obituary statistics,
40. besides the Garden Island Newspaper photographer has shown, via pictures that many seniors don’t care about protection,
41. and good reason too, most are healthy.
42. And the ones who need protection must already have the necessary requirements to be sickened by the Covid virus,
43. and those requirement are that you must have at least 2 or more chronic degenerative End-of-Life diseases, for example, Obesity, Diabetes, Heart, Stroke, Vascular, Iatrogenic, Cancers, Alzheimer’s,and Kidney, Lung, and/or Liver diseases.
44. And because it is expected, actually mandatory, due to free senior medical care, each End-of-Life disease usually is accompanied with and complicated by 2 or more toxic and/or lethal prescription drugs,
45. being part of the 4.4 Billion prescription drug sales per year by American doctors, or 16 prescription drugs for every single American. How many do you take.
46. Ask a senior how many prescription drugs they are on, and for how long. Many will say 6 and 10 and even 15 drugs for up to 10 or 20 even 30 years.
47. And so Mayor Kawakami’s Quarantine is serving to protect what seems like nobody,
48. and those who just might need protection, don’t seem to want to put up with the flimsy 3 precautions (mask, 6’ distance, constant hand washing) in the last remaining happy years of their lives,
49. unable to see each others smiling faces, out of reach to hear each other speaking,
50. while starving for oxygen,
51. and rubbing their skin raw at the bathroom sink,
52. all the at the expense of the entire islands’ small businesses and services shutting down,
53. people unemployed,
54. no money for food
55. and health care,
56. lost education
57.and oxygen deprived physical and mental development shunted, stifled, restricted,
58. all the while someone is murdering Kauai alone with an unnecessary un-Hawaii Quarantine.
59. Mr. Mayor, it is not your fault, or kuleana, when people are sick or even die from whatever cause by accident or disease, whether with or without the Quarantine. The age people are dying at is because they have reached the end of their life, virus adds only an infinitesimal part to ones last Aloha.
60. in almost all cases those persons brought their pre-existing diseases on themselves, whether by substance abuse of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs of any kind, prescription or illegal, and
61. ignoring the effort it requires daily to have and maintain actual Heath and Active Optimal Life Longevity.
62. Those people who take the lazy approach to life by relying on carcinogenic petrochemical prescription drugs, as in a quick “pill for every ill”,
63. instead of investing their time and life activiy in promoting md perpetuating their own Health.
64. Well we each make our own bed and we must then lie in it, however that may be.
65. Open Kauai so we can share our Natural Resources of Tropical Beauty that few in the world, even those from other Hawaiian islands have ever seen,
66. Letting them have the ability to visit Kauai with Aloha,
67. and be able to return refreshed and rejuvenated to their less than optimal, less than happy, jobs, lifestyle, and living conditions throughout the world.
68. OPEN KAUA’I, END THE QUARANTINE ! ! ! In the long run, it is actually the Healthy thing to do.
69. It’s only Natural to want and visit Kaua’i, let them come and refresh our lives and businesses with life sustaining income. We need them and they need us.
