Hawai‘i inmate dies in Arizona

HONOLULU — The death of a male Saguaro Correctional Center inmate, over 65 years old, is being classified by an Arizona medical examiner as a COVID-19-related death.

This is the second death of an inmate classified by medical examiners as COVID-19-related. No additional information is being provided to protect individual medical privacy.

The Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona has zero active positive inmate cases. The last two positive inmate cases were medically cleared on Jan. 4.

Both Hawai‘i and prison officials say they are taking steps to limit potential exposure to inmates and staff.
