Sixto Caldito Tabay

Sixto Caldito Tabay, 95 of Lihu‘e, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Nov. 26, 2020. He was born in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on March 6, 1925, and retired as a custodian with Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity. He was the last surviving Kaua‘i Filipino veteran who served in the 12th Infantry Division and enlisted from the Philippines to fight for the United States.

He was preceded in death by brothers Isabelo Tabay, Arturo Tabay, Pascual Tabay, Fransicso Tabay and Trinidad Tabay, and sisters Juanita Tabay Salud and Maria Tabay.

He is survived by wife Alberta Tabay, children Ligaya (Roger) Butac, Josefina Hael, Cesar (Marteza) Tabay, Carmelita Cuepo, Danilo (Rosalina) Tabay, Liberty (Paul) Sueta and Victoria (Randy) De Leon, 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother Macario Tabay of the Philippines, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life is Saturday, Jan. 9 at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, with viewing from 9 a.m. and a prayer service at 11:15 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetary at 1 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required.

Faustina Asprit Tagayuna

Faustina Asprit Tagayuna, 84, passed away on Dec. 5, 2020 at Wilcox Medical Center. She was born in the Philippines on Feb. 14, 1936, and retired as a housekeeper from Kiahuna and Waiohai hotels.

She was preceded in death by husband Marciano Corpuz Tagayuna and parents Juanito and Melania Asprit.

She is survived by daughter Marie (Jay) Tagayuna Manzano and grandsons Jayson, Jayke and Jaycob Manzano.

A viewing will be held at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m., with burial to follow.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Keala Wesley Kauanui

Keala Wesley Kauanui of Kekaha passed away on Dec. 6, 2020, at the age of 47. He was born on Sept. 21, 1973, in Lihu‘e. He was a fisherman and musician.

He was preceded in death by father Patrick Kauanui and brother Keale Kauanui.

He is survived by mother Beverly K. Kauanui, life partner Lynette Furumoto, daughters Niryanne Santiago, Shaelyne Kauanui and Kaylyn Horner, sons Brayden Kauanui and Austin Furumoto, sisters Sunny Jo (‘Aina) Kauanui and Patty B. (Juinor) Kauanui, grandchildren Kaimalino and Hunter-Ray Young and Jaelyn Horner, nephews Kaikua and Ka‘ula Apana, Kaylan Kamaka and CJ and Wailea Pasion, nieces Keahi Apana and Jaslyn Pasion, and numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
