Happy birthday, Larry Rivera, who spent part of his special day serenading Lions Club members who came to wave American flags as a “Mahalo, Veterans!” gesture Saturday on Rice Street fronting the Historic County Building in Lihu‘e.

Happy birthday, Larry Rivera, who spent part of his special day seranading the Lions Clubs, who devoted part of Saturday to waving American flags as a “Mahalo, Veterans!” gesture on Rice Street fronting the Historic County Building in Lihu‘e. Event chair Ron Garlie is already looking ahead to the Toys for Keiki motorcycle run (the late Russell Haluapo would’ve done this), and East Kaua‘i Lions Club Treasurer Larry Graff got help from his daughter and active-duty military member Rachel Graff, who is visiting right now. Rebecca Carnate (her Westside care facility is getting final inspections now) was happy she is not the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Spirit winner, and Barbara Gusman said the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach is getting pretty busy with visitors.

Kudos to East Kaua‘i Lions Club President Janice Bond for making sure no one forgot the event.

More birthday wishes, this time to Jonah Stein, who celebrates his birthday today after spending Saturday with the Boy Scouts from Troop 334 (Ryan Dela Pena had a nice photo of what son Noah did to the white pumpkin for Halloween), who did railroad repair with Scott Johnson at the Haleko Road train yard.

Kudos to the Kaua‘i Landscape Industry Council and the Arbor Day groups on a successful drive-thru plant giveaway despite the early morning showers at Kukui Grove Center.

Don’t foget, today is the deadline for registering for the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank turkey (and accompanying food) distribution that takes place Thursday at the Vidinha Stadium. No registration, no food.
