Confessions of a centrist and a call for civility
Since the conclusion of the 2020 general election is upon us, I thought it a good time to confess the truth.

First of all thank you for your years of service to our Island, and our State! Secondly, I agree with Everything you said! I didn’t realize I was so radical! lol
“As you can see from this list, the values of the Democratic Party are not radical at all.”
Really, Gary? You are seriously delusional if you think that platform is not in large part radical.
For example: Healthcare is a right? I’m afraid not. Rights are easy to discern: they don’t cost your neighbor or others in the society anything (e.g. property rights, freedom of speech, etc.). Healthcare is something that must be paid for with money. If you want it, pay for it, or get a job with a company that will provide it as part of a benefits package. But don’t expect the rest of us to subsidize your false “right” in addition to paying for our own insurance. Ditto for the “free” university education…someone has to pay for it. You must have heard the old adage that there is no such thing as a free lunch?…although your rhetoric conveys that perhaps you just don’t understand what it means.
Grow up and get a grip, you can’t have all the free stuff you want at the expense of others.
Mr. DeSoto, It obvious that citizens of the U.S. have the right ‘to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ as stated in the Declaration of Independence. How can you live a good life without good healthcare, how can you feel free without a healthy mind and body, how can you pursue happiness without a sense of well-being in your body!?!? Use your imagination…
” How can you live a good life without good healthcare, how can you feel free without a healthy mind and body, how can you pursue happiness without a sense of well-being in your body!?!? Use your imagination…”
Sorry James…but not much imagination needed here. Just plain old common sense: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN BODY/MIND AND ITS CARE…NOT YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS. As I told Gary, why should your fellow citizens subsidize you? Time to grow up and take charge of your own life and leave the rest of us to our lives. Don’t lobby for free stuff at someone else’s expense.
Will all due respect, Mr, De Soto, I’m not asking for ‘free stuff’ nor dismissing the importance of personal responsibility. I’m speaking of situations and necessary social costs that recognize the need for shared responsibility parallel with personal responsibility. We live in a society. We have private property laws and laws that protect public land, or the commons. We need both to be civilized and civil. The same is true for other rights and laws.
Blahblahblahblahblah blah! What year was it that you skirted paying taxes and tried to defraud the community or people who are otherwise up and up to your behavior to talk from both sides of your meely mouth and snakes tongue hissing?
Nice ideas and economic responsibility are separate topics. The more government controls and distributes the more system abusers will tax the entire system. Giving the majority the “free” money of the minority is not a “fair share”. Eventually the minority either forcibly or voluntarily will join the majority, and then what? The burden of cost will fall on everyone.
When raising the cost of minimum wage, who burdens the cost. Will the employer lower their profits or raise their prices? If the employer raises their prices, who does that burden? Everyone, but mostly the people who it is trying to help. I would like to see some of these ideas put by an economist rather than someone who just throws out the ideas. Throwing out ideas without a background study on economic policy, taxation, and free markets is irresponsible. Same as throwing ideas around as caronavirus without being in the medical field.
Do unto others,,,. I’m all for capitalism and making an honest living but when some people in our country are making bazillions while other people can’t afford to get medicine for their sick child something is not right. So I will echo and say I never realized I was a lefty communist socialist but if wanting to see people get a fair shake then I’ll take it and proudly.
why is this communist socialist Hooser still allowed space in the paper? oh, it creates a lot if disturbance and that makes money, very capitalistic.
what communist or socialist country is doing well and how many have failed or are failing and the quality of life is in the sewer, literally. the proof is in the pudding, be careful what you wish for, you might get it
Higher education and equanimity are the most important things to propel any country towards peace and prosperity such as the being proven by Switzerland, Denmark, Finland and Austria….. just saying! I am a senior citizen of the world and formerly quit my association with the usa democratic party 4 years ago and joined the International Green Party.
I believe that the young people who are demonstrating for Climate awareness are who we should be focusing on and our own SOVEREIGNTY under God.
Anything less is VANITY AND VEXATION.
