LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative is holding its 2021 Calendar of Student Art contest electronically.
“The calendar helps foster a love of art in our kids, and has been a must-have for our members for the past 17 years,” said KIUC Communications Manager Beth Tokioka. “Thankfully, we’ll be able to continue the tradition in 2021 through creative use of technology.”
All artwork is being accepted electronically, and will showcase each grade level’s student talent. Kaua‘i students in grades kindergarten through 12 can enter. Kindergarteners draw the cover art, first-graders draw for the month of January, and so on, until seniors draw for the month of December.
Artwork elements must be original work of the student and will be judged on artistic merit, creativity, and how well the assigned month is depicted.
Take a photo or scan artwork to enter the contest. Digital images should be submitted as a high resolution .jpg, .eps or PDF. High-resolution images are typically at least 300 dpi images at 8.5 by 11 inches. Images can be submitted in RGB, CMYK or grayscale format.
The student’s name, grade, school, teacher and/or parent/guardian’s name, contact phone number and email address must be included with the submission.
Each winning student’s name and school will be printed in the calendar, along with the student’s photograph for the winning month.
Artwork in the horizontal or landscape position best fits the calendar’s format.
Monthly calendar winners will receive $100. Honorable mention winners receive $50, and a grand prize winner will be selected and win $100.
The deadline for the contest is Wednesday, Oct. 14. All entries must be submitted electronically. Go to kiuc.coop to the Community section and “Calendar of Student Art Contest” tab to submit artwork.
