LIHU‘E — In partnership with the county and state, EagleView is engaging with Snowbird Air LLC for aerial-imagery flights islandwide for emergency-response services now through August 2021.
During this time, Snowbird Air will be taking pictures of the ground to identify building structures, landmarks and terrain to aid the county in delivery of services and supply state emergency-medical-services databases with up-to-date imagery.
Snowbird is utilizing a Piper Aztec twin-engine and a Cessna 172 single-engine aircraft to collect the imagery. All imagery flights are planned and flown well-above Federal Aviation Administration minimum altitudes.
EagleView (Formerly called Pictometry) is US-based company that was formed in Rochester, New York, as Pictometry around 2000, and joined with a roofing company in the Seattle area, EagleView. EagleView is contracted to capture aerial imagery for all 911 centers and public safety in the state by the State E911 board.
How is this better than Google Earth? If we already have free images, what is the rational of paying for more?
Google Earth images can be many years old.
I wonder if this is really necessary. Google earth has amazingly detailed photos. Don’t they have Kauai too?
Don’t ya just love seeing this modern aviation technology used to improve our safety and lives – what an incredible time to be alive!
However, i would like to draw attention to the red bi-plane scourge in our skies who has been tormenting the beach goers here at Kealia Beach for years and years with his aerobatic flight antics. Our grandkids call him the Red-Pest!
The Kamole Rd Neighborhood and the Kaao Rd Neighborhood are directly under his favorite show-off zone, and we are sick of this kolohe buzzing and swooping and ruining the tranquility of the Kealia Beach area. Our family and friends all the way up at Kawaihau Rd & Laipo Rd call me to complain when he is out and about for his 30 min+ sessions over Kealia. That’s a mile and a half away from them! And our grandkids say they can hear the Red Pest when they’re in class at Kapaa Elementary School. I wasn’t going to write anything, but while reading this article, the peaceful morning was cut short today (Sep 23) by the Red Pest buzzing our neighborhood yet again, this time around 10:15AM.
His aerobatic flight patterns bring him so low over our home that i can use my little camera phone to take a picture or video and can clearly see his plane’s number: N411EM.
Are you sick of hearing this low-flying, buzzing, noisy, and disrespectful bi-plane disrupting the peace in our beautiful East-side neighborhoods or ruining an otherwise peaceful time while trying to enjoy Kealia Beach? Please contact Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials to notify them every time this pilot decides to disturb our neighborhoods’ skies!
Mahalo for helping to keep our residential skies peaceful and beautiful!
PS: From the FAA: “The most efficient way to reach the FAA with noise concerns is to send an email to 9-AWP-noise@faa.gov with your full name, address, email address and a brief description of your concern. Alternatively you may call the FAA’s Western-Pacific Regional Office’s noise information line at (424) 405-8020.”
“Public safety” = law enforcement.
Read, “private contractor taking aerial police surveillance of all island residences and lands.” We’ll say it’s for “Fire department, and ‘Other’ public safety agencies.”
1984 was only prematurely dated.
Pictometry is WAY better then Google Earth, and it is used by Emergency Management for events that effect Kauai, it was always a good tool, but it needs to be updated periodically due to new construction, roadways on the island. It is invaluable during emergencies and is used to navigate from the command post,
