Inter-island quarantine requested

LIHU‘E — Mayor Derek Kawakami, along with Mayors Harry Kim and Mike Victorino, are requesting Governor David Ige reinstate the 14-day quarantine for inter-island travel after the state reported 900 new cases of COVID-19 over the past week.

In addition to the Wednesday request, the mayors also asked Ige to allow the Neighbor Islands to remain in the “Act With Care” phase for two incubation periods, or 28 days.

That means prohibiting the reopening of all public schools and universities and the reopening of any currently closed businesses or public facilities until two incubation periods of the virus have passed, according to a Wednesday letter from the Maui Office of the Mayor to Ige.

Inter-island or mainland travel, without mandatory testing before and upon arrival, all we can do is assume that every single person has it and then quarantine for 14 days. That approach will not allow the tourism economy to ever open up again. The virus is not going away this year and may take quite some time to reduce cases in 2021. If we really want to safely allow visitation inter-island or from the mainland, a plan for “on-site” testing with shorter to follow quarantine periods is where a plan needs to be created. Test, travel, test, quarantine until test results come back….go enjoy our islands! In state testing is the answer, even if travelers have to pay for it themselves.

    WHO statistics. H1N1 60.8 million U.S. cases. As of August 1, 2020 4.6 million U.S. covid cases.
Why did we not shut down the states for H1N1? Will we now shut down for every flu season?

The virus isn’t going away any time soon. What has the Mayor done in terms of increasing care capacity? …and I don’t mean temporary facilities.

Where did all the Federal money go?

It’s as if leadership believes we can hide and the virus will go away. Appears to me a foolish notion.

More political nonsense from the cowardly lions. They apparently can’t or won’t take the time to study the important world-wide data. Across the world the DEATH rate continues to decline despite the so called spike in cases. The pattern of the data is virtually the same whether a country is locked down or left alone (e.g. Sweden).
The problem is these innumerate political hacks just don’t get it–the virus, like any virus, will run its course no matter what. So the question remains:
Can’t these hacks, who continue to collect full taxpayer funded salaries, see that by killing the various state, local and national economies they are ensuring their own demise. Eventually their tax revenues will dwindle to such a point that nothing government will be funded. What then? These dim-wits can’t think that they will be able to milk the unemployed for income, property and GE taxes can they?
    What utter nonsense

RG, this has nothing to do with reviewing the data but simply to defeat Trump at all cost, no matter if it brings the State’s economy down around its ankles, causes suicides, destroys people’s lives and livelihood. Our leaders are in lock step with the far left’s agenda. Bringing about a socialist ideology with one ruling party, the DNC. If this were not an election year none of this would be happening.
