LIHU‘E — Another opportunity for some relief money is available through County of Kaua‘i for households that have lost income due to COVID-19 and have not yet been able to access government aid programs.
Mayor Derek Kawakami introduced the COVID-19 Emergency Loan Funds in a Thursday public address. Qualified applications will receive financial counseling and may be eligible for zero percent interest personal loans of up to $10,000.
The county is partnering with Kaua‘i Government Employees Federal Credit Union in making these loans available.
Loans will go to qualified applicants on a first come, first served basis. Financial review will be based on pre-COVID-19 income.
Kawakami said Thursday that the program could help households that include taxi or service industry drivers, independent contractors, small business owners, vacation rental owners and gig workers.
