WAILUA — AJ Escalona finished with a net 2-under par 70, Saturday to take the A Flight of the Kaua‘i Seniors Golf Club Tournament that contested under windy and sometimes rainy conditions at the Wailua Golf Course.
Escalona set the pace with his net 70 in the A Flight, followed by Bill Parker with a net 72. Mark Nakama and Jeff McDonald followed with a tie at net 73.
A four-way tie at net 74 included Calvin Tsukayama, Alan Tada, Dennis Hurlbert, and Ed Larue.
Richard Rebugio and Winston Ogata finished in a tie at net 75 to round out the A Flight leaders.
Gene Matsuda was four strokes better than Tommy Tokuda and Milton Ozaki to lead the B Flight at net 65, followed by Tokuda and Ozaki carding 69’s.
A five-way tie at net 70 included Steven Kurokawa, Gary Nitta, Wil Shima, Russell Maeda, Hawk Kawaihalau, and Cliff Ichimasa.
Howard Uohara was a stroke back at net 70 to round out the B Flight leaders.
In C Flight play, Bernice Hiraoka set the pace with a net 62, followed three strokes back by George Dempsey at net 65.
Edward Chinen carded a net 67 for the third spot followed by Jack Lucas and Jean Sato ending in a tie at net 69.
Bob Hiraoka finished with a net 70 for the No. 6 spot followed by Brad Imano and Grace Tanaka tying at net 71. Ron Curry and Susan Yamamoto tied at net 75 to round out the C Flight leaders.

I would be nice if we could hear what their “gross” score was before subtracting their handicap!? Without that, it’s not possible to see who the “real” best golfer is in their prospective age groups!
