Coulter wrong in blaming immigrants

Ann Coulter, the mouth(?)piece for the president’s 2020 campaign, has made it clear what Trumpism is about, and the stark choice presented in 2020 (TGI Forum, Dec. 14, A National View).

Trump stands for “the modern American white male,” which Ann hails as the “most gentle, protective, chivalrous creature God has ever created.” While sex crimes are otherwise rampant, sexual fetishes and abuse of underage women by white males has “happened NEVER,” says Coulter (overlooking Jeffrey Epstein, Tim Nolan, Harvey Weinstein, Richard Strauss, Larry Nassar, Thomas Incantalupo, Catholic Church pederasty scandal, David Carpenter, William French Anderson, John Burt, Jeffrey Dahlmer, Michael J. Devlin, George Feigley, Jared Fogel, Will Hayden, etc., etc.).

Trump is the bulwark protecting those gentle white creatures against other darker (in skin and deed) races, which are “child-rape-happy cultures.” Actual and thwarted immigrants are “child kidnappers and child molesters.” Ann says that although “(i)ncest and child rape are not native American habits,” immigrants come from “primitive, peasant cultures” whose “hallmark” includes not only those behaviors but “(b)estial behavior towards women and children” as well.

This would simply be overt ugly racism, unless the statistics established disproportionate immigrant criminality as a fact. Let’s look.

Border state Texas, with over 15% foreign-born population, is the only state to directly track convictions by immigration status. Over 2011-2018, undocumented immigrants were about half as likely as native-born Americans, and legal immigrants were about 80% less likely than native-born Americans, to have been convicted of a crime.

For 2017 in Texas, according to one analysis, the conviction rate for 100,000 Texans of different groups was 1,702 for natives, 899 for illegal immigrants, and 599 for legal immigrants. Thus, illegal immigrants were over 47%, and legal immigrants 65% less likely to be convicted of a crime than native-born Americans.

For homicides in 2017, conviction rates for illegal and legal immigrants were 29% and 57% below those of natives. Ann might argue that conviction rates are artificially low, since the undocumented are often deported before conviction. But the arrest rate for illegal immigrants was 45% below, and legal immigrants 58% below, that of native-born Americans.

Coulter was talking of sex crimes. The same analysis showed the 2017 sex-crime conviction rate for illegal immigrants was about 14% below the rate for native-born Americans and the sex-crime conviction rate for legal immigrants was 60% below that of natives.

Going beyond Texas, a meta-analysis of 51 studies from 1994-2014 on the relationship between immigration and crime in the United States found that immigration reduces crime, although the relationship was very weak.

Contrary to Trump’s 2020 campaign’s race-baiting hysteria, immigrants do not disproportionately commit crimes; they are more law abiding than the native-born Americans.

So why the racism and hate? Catering to the worst in human nature. And, deflection: as the Wizard said to Dorothy, “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.”

I can’t imagine why you give publicity to a nut job like Ann Coulter.
I would pay $5 extra a month to get Fox News off my cable TV.
Please leave it off of the Garden Island.

in 1985 I began the process of petitioning my wife family from the phillipines, all entered legally. None jumped a fence, swam a river, or worked illegally. Every one achieved a degree while working and paying taxes. Just two years ago the last sibling got in, 32 years later and legally. I have no empathy for illegal (criminal) immigrants, if they want in they must do it right. If they bring their kids its meaningless, they must do it right. No matter what Coulter trashy mouth may spew or says or how she displays herself is meaningless to me. The fact remains and is not being dealt with swiftly and thats that every person that jumped that border illegally costs all of us tax dollars which are being wasted. If We did it legally over 32 years , I expect them to be held to the same standard as I an American citizen was held to. if you do it right and you get in welcome to America! if you are a cheater who broke the law go back and do it legally. thats not hate, its right. I as an American citizen followed the laws of America, nothing exempts anyone from these laws, especially foreign citizens, as non Americans they do not get the bundle of rights the constitution affords an American citizen. Try entering any country illegally, become a non tax paying huge community, birthing kids for free at tax payers cost etc etc. Im not saying life is freee and easy for an illegal, im saying they are illegal, I have no sympathy for their deportation, or family issues created by them that affect their kids when they break our laws. If you support them , thats ok too but you should be required to just forfeit your social security benefits to support them. This article is pure trash, using coulters trash to support the authors views on illegal immigrants. So Coulter may hate but I dont, im just sick of the fact of how these people can be called illegals when the real fact is they are tax dollar sucking criminals, until they do it right. We dont owe them any housing, support or time. Go back and do it right.

Great response Mike! Thank you and your family for coming over legally and going through the process!

Right on Mike! Illegals need to get in line and do it the right way and follow the law, that’s it. Nuff said

What a high and mighty comment we have here about following immigration rules. First of all, Filipinos have many options within their country and in regards to other countries, including the USA, in regards to relieving economic or other distress through migration. Oversea Foreign Workers (OFWs) are the primary export of the Philippines. Outlaw or Rebel fighting affects less than 5% living in the Southern tip of the country. Current Central American style gang violence is more of a problem in the USA and hardly exists in the Philippines.
If you tell an ordinary Central American to follow the rules you are telling them not to come. Only those that can document wealth and property can get a B-2 Visa (Visitor’s Visa), others simply cannot. A poor Central American with a US Citizen as a sponsor cannot even get a green card in less than ten years due to a complex quota system. There are spouses of green card holders currently in their 16th year of waiting. Those fleeing the nonsurvivable conditions at home will find refugee entry has all but been shut down and the refugee camps, now on the Mexican side are full of intolerable squalor and crime.
The most ignorance presented by all these newly minted immigration bigots is how their tax dollars are being used. Since 1996, authorized and unauthorized immigrants are INELIGIBLE for welfare, food stamps, social security, other safety net programs, for their first 5 years in the USA. Public School is available in some States that require ALL children to be in school; but, the bigots are working on that. You know, we got to teach these people a lesson about how high and mighty we are!

Ann Coulter is by no means a “mouthpiece for Trump! Sorry Jed, you’re on the wrong side of reality. There is no “white” supremacy, bias or anything else affecting Coulter, Trump, or the Republican Party. It’s you who see everything in relation to White, Black, Brown, Yellow blah blah. Your letter proves beyond a reasonable doubt that you and the miserable liberals are the real racists! Tell me again how you feel about Jews and Whites? Trump has done more for ALL Americans in 3 years than the past Presidents did in decades! Minorities are finding jobs, getting raises, being let out of prison because of the biggest Prison Reform in your lifetime, and minorities of all colors have it better than they have had, EVER! Black and Hispanic unemployment is the lowest in history, women unemployment is the best it’s been in half a century, and 3 million minorities are off of welfare and in the labor market! Hawaii has it’s lowest unemployment rate in modern memory!! You need to learn how to read with an open mind, stop drooling over fake news like a sheeple, and stop being afraid of reality! You and LEGAL immigrants haven’t had it this great in your lifetimes! Jousting with windmills will only get you discouraged, ornery, and depressed? Ann Coulter is nothing more than a windmill. I simply ignore her.

You left out the part on how some of your best friends are people of color (who really should stop complaining now that they have it so good!).

I feel the same way about criminal behavior. No one is above the law including the TMT protesters. Why are they allowed to flaunt our laws?

James, I agree with you, but the word is ‘flout’, not ‘flaunt’ which means almost the opposite of what you intended.

      1. JAMES January 2, 2020 6:17 am Reply

Hutch; thanks but either word is actually correct: Flaunt- “display (something) ostentatiously, especially in order to provoke or to show defiance.”

It’s amazing to me how some people have to finish articulating their views by calling other people with different views words like racist or bigot. U diminish your point when u continually do that. It’s sadly become the norm to start name calling when u don’t agree. I don’t get it. Happy new years all!

According to Merriam-Webster, a BIGOT is a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.
That’s a beautiful and effective summary of the Neanderthal mindset we are witnessing in our no longer very modern times! I could have written all that into the comment instead of “Bigot;” but, then the partially educated “Actually” people would have commented: “Uhhhh, ACTUALLY, there’s a single word you could have substituted there,” and I am obstinately intolerant of that sort of thing being flouted!

Thank-you Pete for your factually supported comments. You are doing a great service in providing the contextual background to so many of these issues. Meanwhile, the emotional responses are loaded with name-calling , anger and disinformation. Oh, and the usual one long Trump brag by Mr. Oswald full of generalizations which can all be debunked but who has the time to keep up with it all? I too find it interesting that immigrants I know who came here “legally”, with money and connections, demonize those who are trying to escape horrendous countries and have so little sympathy. But then they have been told that illegals are “sucking up our tax money” so they feel justified in their disapproval. Illegals are breaking the law, but our President who hires them isn’t??? Isn’t that ironic.

“Miserable liberals”? “Sheeple”? “drooling over fake news”? Comments using those concepts don’t exactly come across as credible. The comment about ‘learning to read with an open mind’ seems to be contradicted by the factisms of the rest of what’s said.
The statements about how good, how much better we all have it since trump was installed can not be documented by the original sources for such information. Us natives and legal immigrants have NOT “had it this great in (our) lifetimes”: try asking citizens who are not part of the upper 20% income-wise and you would learn differently.

We need to take care of our own homeless before we let in and support illegals. It use to be no one came into America unless they could afford to support themselves or had a signed sponsor, they also had to be in good health with their vaccinations in order.. We need to only allow immigrants in that do it legally.
