Pop Warner coach wants to see his teams, again

LIHUE — Hanapepe Pop Warner football players and coaches participating in the program during the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s are invited to a reunion with coach Kazu Richard Ueoka and assistant coach Tommy Rita at the HGEA offices on Akahi Street starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

There will also be a memorial service remembering players and coaches who past on during Ueoka’s tenure as Hanapepe Pop Warner coach.

“Time goes by so fast,” Ueoka said. “It would be a great honor for me to see and spend some time to reflect on our past experiences and to pay homage to our fellow teammates and coaches. I am planning a candlelight ceremony to remember and honor our fallen comrades.”

Bring your own food and drink, Ueoka said.

“May I request that you contact your teammates and inform them of this get-together. I would like to see all you guys,” he said.
