Suzanne Deppe
Suzanne Deppe (Allen), 68, of Anahola, passed away at home on Sept. 12, 2019. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on Nov. 25, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ardel H. Deppe, and parents Edward Mauter and Julia Smith.
Suzanne is survived by her brother Chuck Mauter, daughter Julie Jensen (Destry), grandsons Travis Caberto (Kanani) and Trevor Fitch, granddaughters Shannon Fitch and Savannah Fitch, and great-grandchildren Kainoa, Kainalu and Teiana.
A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held at 4735 Aliomanu Rd on Oct. 19, at 3:30 p.m.

Mercedes ‘Mercy’ Efhan
Mercedes “Mercy” Efhan, 82, of Kapaa, passed away at home on Sept. 6, 2019. She was born on Oahu on Jan. 6, 1937, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Sancho Efhan, granddaughter Shawnte Keala Efhan Jaquias, great-grandson Kamaha‘o Henderson, parents Simeona and Gregorio Datanagan, and siblings Larry Datanagan and Connie Villaro.
She is survived by daughters Bernie (Harlan) Nakae of Kapaa, Suzie Efhan of Lihue, Sherrie Efhan of Kapaa, Val Yadao of Hanamaulu and Lulu (Wilbert) Cummings of Puhi, sons Teo Efhan of Anahola and Aaron (Janis) Efhan of Lihue, 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandson, siblings Vic Datanagan of Daly City, California and Lourdes Corpuz of Ewa Beach, Oahu, and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery pavilion in Hanapepe at 10 a.m., with inurnment to follow.

Jane Fuiko Itokazu
Jane Fuiko Itokazu passed away peacefully at home in Honolulu on Sept. 11, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Kilauea on July 13, 1943, to Yae Muraoka Sasaki and Henry Kaneichi Sasaki, and grew up in Hanalei. She graduated from Hanalei School and Kapaa High School. After high school she attended Cannon’s School of Business in Honolulu.
While working at the same restaurant in Honolulu, she met her husband Steven Shigeru “Peter” Itokazu. They were married for 37 years until his passing.
She enjoyed Okinawan folk dancing, watching “WWE” on TV, and going to Las Vegas with her friend Sally. She was a very caring and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother.
During the late U.S. Rep. Mark Takai’s campaign, she volunteered to hold up placards on the street to help him win the election in 2014.
She is survived by daughter Stephanie (Sean) Park, grandsons Grayson and Cody Park, brothers James Jiro (Nancy) Sasaki and Roy (Lillian) Sasaki, sister-in-law Dorothy Sasaki, brother- in-law Isamu Itokazu, and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at Byodo In Temple, and she will be inurned at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in the same niche as her late husband Peter, a veteran of the Korean War.
Ernesto ‘Erning’ Itabac Carbonel
Ernesto “Erning” Itabac Carbonel of Koloa, passed away on Sept. 14, 2019, at Wilcox Medical Center, at the age of 81. Born in Salomague, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was retired from the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa.
He was preceded in death by parents Saturnino Q. Carbonel and Estefania I. Carbonel, brothers Bartolome Carbonel, Julio Carbonel, Alfredo Carbonel Sr., Emilio Carbonel and Eugenio Carbonel, sisters Rosita Rivad, Fortunata Carbonel and Herminia Carbonel, brothers-in-law Teofilo Serrano Sr. and Petronilo Rivad, and sisters-in-law Rufina Carbonel, Dolores A. Carbonel, Aida Carbonel and Eugenia Carbonel.
He is survived by wife Dolores Tugade Carbonel, sons Ernest “Pali” (Lauri) Carbonel and Jess (Jodee) Carbonel, daughter Ralna (Jack) Burbank, grandchildren Bryson Carbonel, Trevor Carbonel, Jonah Carbonel, Jacob Burbank, Jaden Carbonel, Ryder Burbank and Jewel Carbonel, brothers Daniel (Vicenta) Carbonell and Rudolfo (Marites) Carbonel, sisters Flora Serrano and Adelina (Luis) Rivad, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Raphael Church in Koloa, with visitation from 8 a.m., and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Raphael Cemetery.
