HANAPEPE — The Koloa Rams split its series with the Kapaa Eagles and the Hanapepe Colts were 3-1 in its series, Saturday when the Kauai Pop Warner Football League hosted six contests at the Hanapepe Stadium.
The Eagles opened the day with a 12-0 shutout over the Rams in the Mitey Mite division contest, but had the tables turned when the Rams shut down the Eagles 26-0 in the PeeWee division match.
Similarly, the Colts emerged on top, 36-19 in a shootout against the Kekaha Titans in the Mitey Mite contest, but dropped 10-29 to the Titans in the afternoon PeeWee contest.
The Colts closed the day with a 44-18 edge over the Lihue Raiders in a flag division contest where the Colts broke a 12-12 deadlock in the first half when Adrian Henkel found the end zone at the tail end of a 10-yard run.
With 16 ticks remaining to the break, Isaiah Puni broke out for a 45-yard romp to the end zone for the 45-24 margin at the half.
Junior Clement, the Lihue ball carrier, was the sole scorer for Lihue after pushing 19 yards in the second half for the Raiders’ scoring tally. Earlier, Clement peeled of scores of 45 and 48 yards in the first half for the Raiders’ first half scoring.
Henkel peeled off runs of two, 23, and 10 yards for the Hanapepe flag scores and passed for a point-after play, followed by Puni adding a 45-yard score. Easton Hew marked a three-yard touchdown, and Keola Naka‘ahiki added two scores, a 45-yard, and a 16-yard run, for the final math.
Earlier in the day, Kaikea Miyashiro accounted for the three Kekaha scores in the Mitey Mite shootout, pushing for all the scores in the final period starting with the first 28-yard run with 8:00 showing on the game clock, and Miyashiro running in the PAT.
Miyashiro added another score with 4:43 showing, this one coming on a 35-run, and clossed the Titans’ scoring with 1:48 showing with a 46-yard run. The point-after on both of these scores were unsuccessful.
The Colts turned to Kanoa Naumu who picked up four touchdowns and had a PAT kick and run in Hanapepe’s 36-19 victory. Naumu marked a 17-yard run for touchdown in the first half with Kepa Pablo doing the one-yard touchdown on the second Hanapepe TD that came with 1:54 remaining in the half. Naumu ran the PAT for the 14-0 bulge at the break.
Coming back from the locker rooms, Naumu added three more touchdowns in answer to the trio of scores by the Titans, the first coming in the third period on a 15-yard run that saw River Balocan doing the PAT boot.
Naumu marked two touchdowns in the final period, the first coming with 7:40 showing on the game clock on a 65-yard breakout with Balocan doing the PAT boot, and the final score coming with 1:45 showing on a 55-yard breakout with the PAT being unsuccessful.
During the PeeWee match, Hanapepe Colts broke into the scorebooks on a one-yard charge by Kamalu Albina with Shayden Dela Cruz doing the point-after boot for the 8-0 bulge that was answered by four Kekaha Titans.
Ikaika Miyashiro pulled in runs of four and three yards, respectively to give Kekaha a 13-8 margin at the break after Brennan Fernandez ran the point-after with 3:38 showing in the half.
The Titans came off the break with Fernandez scoring two touchdowns, and Dayton Shimatsu doing the point-after honors for the 29-10 final.
During the Unlimited division contest, which is a 13 and Under with no weight limitation, Hanapepe did all of the scoring in the first half, sharing two touchdowns apiece from Kamu Santiago and Isaac Ulanday. Izah Henderson completed the scoring on a 31-yard run with 9:43 showing, just 18 ticks peeled off the period.
Santiago was the producer in the first quarter, putting on scores of three, and seven yards, respectively. The PATs were unsuccessful.
Following Henderson’s score, Ulanday went to work, putting on scores of 27 and 39 yards, respectively. The PATs were all unsuccessful.
This Saturday, the Kauai Pop Warner Football League moves its games to Vidinha Stadium, starting at 8:30 a.m. when Kekaha meets Hanapepe in PeeWee division followed by the Mitey Mite division games at 10:30 a.m.
Lihue Raiders take over the afternoon series starting with a Flag division game against Kapaa Eagles starting at 12:30 p.m., and continuing with a Mitey Mite and PeeWee division games.
