$300k for veterans cemetery

LIHUE — U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will award a total of $309,220 in federal funding to the Hawaii Office of Veterans’ Services to expand the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

“These federal funds will help us honor the legacies of brave service members who put their lives on the line to serve our country,” said Schatz.

The grant will help fund the construction of 128 columbarium niches, landscaping and supporting infrastructure. The funding will ensure Kauai Veterans Cemetery continues to provide service for nearly 6,000 veterans and their eligible family members.
