LIHUE — The County of Kauai Department of Public Works Solid Waste Office is modifying the traffic pattern for the Lihue Refuse Transfer Station to a one-way directional flow.
All traffic will enter as normal through the refuse transfer station gate. Vehicles leaving the facility will exit through the Kauai Resource Center parking lot.
“We ask that customers please drive with caution as the Reynolds Recycling customers will also be exiting through the KRC parking lot as well. Signs will be posted at designated areas to help with the traffic flow,” said Deputy County Engineer Lyle Tabata.
In conjunction with the modified traffic flow, Reynolds Recycling customers will not be allowed to line up earlier than 8:45 a.m. before the facility opens, or at 1:15 p.m. before the facility re-opens after lunch. Vehicles that line up when the facility is closed cause operational hazards for Solid Waste personnel and the public entering the Lihue Refuse Transfer Station. Monitors will be in the area and signage will be posted to notify customers of this change.
Customers should be aware that Solid Waste trucks and trailers will continue to exit against traffic through the transfer station gate, as the KRC exit is too small. Flaggers will be stationed when the trailers are exiting the facility.
