LIHUE As the start of the 2019-20 Kauai Interscholastic Federation sports calendar approaches in a matter of a few weeks, the Grove Farm Foundation wrapped up last years calendar by presenting $2,000 to the KIF.
LIHUE — As the start of the 2019-20 Kauai Interscholastic Federation sports calendar approaches in a matter of a few weeks, the Grove Farm Foundation wrapped up last year’s calendar by presenting $2,000 to the KIF.
The funds were set up as part of the Grove Farm Team of the Week program involving the KIF sports calendar. Voting was done through a representative of The Garden Island newspaper, and Ron Wiley at The KQNG Radio Group. Each team earned a $50 contribution from the Grove Farm Foundation to its school’s athletic program for its Team of the Week honor.
“The Team of the Week acknowledges the hardworking student athletes, their dedicated coaches, and the KIF staff,” said Beau Acoba, a Grove Farm project specialist. “Grove Farm has always been a firm believer in building a sustainable Kauai — with the support of our youth being a fundamental focus.”
The 2019-20 KIF sports calendar opens Aug. 17 with a preseason football game featuring the Waimea High School Menehune hosting the Honoka‘a Dragons at a 7 p.m. kickoff at Hanapepe Stadium.
On the same date, Kapaa High School football will be playing the Lahainaluna Lunas on Maui.
The first KIF regular season event is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 28 with an air riflery match featuring Waimea traveling to Kapaa High School, and Island School meeting Kauai High School. Both matches start at 5 p.m.
On the same date, girls volleyball is tentatively scheduled to open its season when Waimea travels to the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapaa, and Island School hosts Kauai High School at the Wilcox Gymnasium on the Puhi campus. Both games will have the junior varsity matches starting at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity matches serving up 25 minutes following the completion of the JV games.
