LIHUE — Three Kauai nonprofits have $20,000 grants coming their way, and it’s the public that gets to choose who gets the money.
Part of Servco Pacific Inc.’s celebration of 100 years in business, the Servco Foundation is giving out $20,000 grants to 19 different nonprofits based in Hawaii and serving local communities.
Nominations are open to the public from now through July 14, and require a 150-word narrative from the nominator explaining the reasons why the organization deserves a grant and how the nonprofit has impacted his or her life.
Servco started in 1919 as a two-car repair garage, and has grown into a business with operations in automotive distribution and retail, car-sharing, appliance distribution and retail, and capital investments.
Giving back to the Hawaii community is the theme of 2019 for Servco, which is running a $1.5 million Centennial Service Campaign throughout the year.
“At Servco, service is at the heart of what we do — but perhaps no service is more important than the work nonprofit organizations do in Hawaii,” said Mark Fukunaga, chairman and CEO of Servco.
“We have been a part of the local community for the past 100 years, and we are excited to celebrate this milestone with them.”
To qualify, nonprofits must have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
Employees, board members, officers, and young professional board members may not nominate their own nonprofit.

Servco will distribute the grants across the state to five nonprofits on Oahu, four nonprofits on the Big Island, three nonprofits on Maui, three nonprofits on Kauai, and four statewide nonprofits.
Winners will be announced in the fall.
