Man drowns at PMRF

BARKING SANDS — A man died Friday after being pulled from the waters near Majors Bay at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility around 1 p.m.

The man, who has been identified as 70-year-old Washington Bennett, was transported to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital after medical personnel were unable to resuscitate him. Bennett was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Bennett was visiting Kauai with his wife.

Crews from PMRF were the first to respond to the incident.

The drowning marks the 11th known recreational death on Kauai this year and sixth confirmed drowning.
