Three get GIFCU scholarship nods

LIHUE — Three graduating seniors from Kauai High School were thrilled to be recipients of the 2019 Garden Island Federal Credit Union scholarships Thursday evening.

Accompanied by their parents, the recipients were treated to a small reception led by the GIFCU President Keith Uyeno, CFO Shane Corregedore, GIFCU Scholarship Committee’s Glen Takenouchi, and Senior Office Leader Charlene Garcia.

Accepting the awards, Dodger Middlebrook will be heading to Cal Poly following his graduation. He starred in athletics, including soccer, cross country and swimming.

Yhanessa Sales is planning on studying computer science at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Mayumi Fulgencio received two scholarships in one day, earlier having received a Zonta Club of Kauai scholarship at a luncheon gathering.

Fulgencio plans on studying environmental science and international relations.
