Several new Kauai outdoor warning sirens were included as part of Monday’s statewide outdoor warning siren test.
New coverage areas were provided by sirens at Kealia Kai and Omao Park, while new, upgraded legacy siren replacements included Wailua Homesteads Park, Waipouli Waikaea Canal, Kaumakani Neighborhood Center and Kekaha Gardens.
In addition, the siren at Anini Beach Pavilion has had all major components replaced, due to damage from a lightning strike, and it will once again be operational.
“While these new sirens are operational, they are yet to be formally acceptance-tested by our partners at HI-EMA and the State contractor, which will take place mid-April,” said KEMA Senior Staff Officer Chelsie Sakai. “We’re considering the test on April 1 as a dry run.”
