WAIMEA — Animals killed on Kauai’s roadsides will be remembered during the Animal Memorial Service hosted by the Waimea Buddhist Ministers Association on Saturday, April 6, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hofgaard Park, across Kaumualii Highway from Ishihara Market in Waimea.
“We see many animals’ dead bodies hit by cars on the highway,” said the Rev. Tomo Hojo of the West Kauai Hongwanji Mission. “These were once living creatures. Let us think about the animal’s life and passing through by attending the service.”
The Rev. Kouen Kikuchi of the Waimea Higashi Hongwanji, the Rev. Kohtoku Hirao of the Waimea Shingon Mission, and Hojo shared these concerns three years ago when the first service was held at the Russian Fort.
Since that initial service, the gathering has moved to the Hofgaard Park in downtown Waimea.
