WAILUA — Kauai High School golfer Kanoa Nii was the sole golfer crossing with an even par 36 during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf round Saturday at the Wailua Golf Course.
Kanoa went on to finish with the best individualist score at a three-over 75 after stumbling in the back nine through the field that was whittled back due to spring break commitments.
“This was a great opportunity to give the inexperienced players a chance to play competitively,” said Kauai boys golf coach Alton Amimoto. “Kanoa and Kamden had great scores, but were not part of the team scoring. Instead, we had some great play from Mosiah Bautista who is holding up well.”
The Red Raiders finished the day by winning the Boys team competition on 344 strokes over the efforts of the Menehune boys who closed the books with 385, led by Nick Esposo carding a 92 (47-45) and Luke Dela Pena (49-44) and Ryan Martin (46-47) each finishing with 93s.
Kauai boys team was led by Bautista who finished the day with an 81 (40-41) to lead the Raiders’ team scoring. Christian Ganir followed two strokes back (38-45-83) with Jaydon Kyono ending at 87 (43-44) for the Raider leaders. Other contributing team golfers included Carson Oyama (51-44-95) and Braeden Yokoyama (46-47-93).
Sabrina Murphy led the Girls team scoring by Kauai High School with a 92 (48-44). The Red Raider team marked 266 and finished the day with no challenges.
The next KIF golf round is scheduled for March 30 when the first group tees off at noon at the Timbers Resort at Hokuala Ocean Course.
