LIHUE — Kauai High School golfer Kamden Nii tied with Kapaa High School’s Kekoa Eisenhour at three-0ver par 39 during the cross, Saturday at the Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf round contested under windy and rainy conditions at the Puakea Golf Course.
Eisenhour picked up the pace and improved to finish the back nine on a two-over 38 for the best round of the day at 77.
The score, however, floated in the wind as the Kapaa boys could not field sufficient golfers for team scoring. This gave the boys team score to Kauai High School that finished the day at 340 strokes spread among five Raider golfers, including Kamden who led the Raider boys at 80.
Island School, setting the pace with James Pratt (45-43-88) and Niki Upson (45-44-89), followed in second at 386 strokes. Waimea rounded out the boys’ team scoring at an even 400 strokes led by Ryan Martin carding a 94 (50-44).
On the girls’ course, Kauai High School’s Tyra Oshiro set the pace at 93 (42-51) followed by team mate Jessica Hreljac finishing six strokes off the pace at 98 (48-50), the only two girls carding double-digit scoring over 18 holes.
Oshiro and Hreljac led the Red Raider quartet to a 304-stroke team scoring.
Individualist girls included players from Island School — Ema-Lani Ebesu (70-59-129), Waimea — Gabby Peleras (60-59-119), and one from the Kauai Christian Academy — Jana Sheatz who carded 67 strokes in exhibition play over nine holes.
The KIF golf round continues Saturday when action moves to the Wailua Golf Course, where the first group tees 0ff at 11:30 a.m.
