MANA — Gates to the newly-improved Kauai Raceway Park will open to the island’s drag racers and fans, Saturday hosted by the Garden Isle Racing Association, and Napa PS&D Kauai.
Racers only will be allowed into the hot pit area starting at 8 a.m. Spectator gates will open at 11 a.m. for a full day’s schedule of racing. There is admission at the gate with children 11 and under admitted free.
Tech inspections and registration for racers will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by qualifying runs starting at 2 p.m. The competition eliminations start at 6:45 p.m.
Scheduled competition brackets include Junior Dragster, Bike, Street, Sport Compact, Muscle V8, Pro ET, and Top Gun.
The GIRA board, its membership, families, friends, and business sponsors have dedicated countless volunteer hours to establish electricity for the facility, eliminating the portable generators that droned through previous events.
Other significant upgrades to the facility include lighted scoreboards, and the latest Portatree professional track system software.
GIRA officials said of all the nationwide National Hot Rod Association sanctioned tracks, Kauai spectators have one of the best quarter-mile views.
