High surf warning for east-facing shores through Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning for all east-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau, in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday. A high surf advisory for all north-facing shores is also in effect.

Entering the water in these areas during the high surf warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Spectators are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.

Surf is expected to build up to 22 feet tonight through Thursday along Kaua‘i’s east-facing shores. The public should expect ocean water to occasionally sweep across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong rip currents, according to NWS.
