Shades of days gone by. Remember when former TGI Editor Rita DeSilva would talk about the sugar cane tassels that marked the holiday season?

Peter Sterne of the Garden Island Arts Council said proceeds from the Taylor Camp movie, showing tonight at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center, will help the GIAC with its planned art center on Rice Street (Seth Womble completed the mural fronting the Kauai Beer Company over the weekend), as well as bring in more musicians for its E Kanikapila Kakou program that starts Jan. 21 with Waipuna.

Showtimes are 5:30 and 8 p.m. for “The Edge of Paradise,” John Wehrheim’s Taylor Camp movie, and tickets are available at the KCC PAC box office.

Y. Catherine Park and H. Peter Park are offering a beginner and intermediate level Asian brush painting workshops today and Saturday at the Kauai Society of Artists gallery at Kukui Grove Center. Call Eve Solomon for more information, 822-1603.

Mary Kay Hertog of the Multiple Sclerosis Walk said Ernie Kanekoa and Caroline Frederiksen of the Kalaheo Steak &Ribs are opening up the restaurant for a spaghetti dinner being served up Monday night as a fundraiser for the MS Walk. Advance tickets are available at Tire Warehouse from Laurie Nakama, Cynthia Edralin or Mary Kay. Reservations are encouraged.
