Happy birthday to Wendy Oyama (great job with the tie-died outfits and the Pokemon headgear!), who spent her special day serving up turkey lunches at the Kapaa Interfaith Association Thanksgiving luncheon at the All Saints Episcopal Church gym in Kapaa!

Jim Jung (he’s planning on going to the Bodhi Day service Dec. 2, too) changed out his pilgrim outfit for that of a Japanese farmer, but still had his tsuru (origami cranes) that he passed out to guests arriving for lunch. Commodore Larry Richardson (how many of you recognized him from the Hawaii Children’s Theatre musical “Newsies?”) was busy parking cars and David Murray was outside greeting guests as they arrived. Jim Rosa said he came earlier, but didn’t need any more help, and Chef Judy Capertina didn’t realize the event was happening so close to her Island Sweets bakery.
Congratulations to Gracie Galiza and Kuga Tosi on the opening of their Kauai Bakery just in time for Thanksgiving! They had their share of Thanksgiving pies and baker Roland Tacsiat even had time to get out some batches of malasadas and turnovers that were sold out well before noon! And, with the holidays upon us, they were busy on Black Friday, too!
Good luck to coaches Rosie Jerves and Chelsey Alfiler and the Kapaa Junior Varsity cheer squad, which was wrapping gifts as a fundraiser to help cover the costs of traveling to the National Pop Warner Dance and Cheer competition in Orlando, Fla. They leave Thursday for their Dec. 3 scheduled appearance on the dance floor.
