Kudos to Fred Atkins, Chef Johnny Saguid, and the Luau Kalamaku kitchen crew volunteers for stepping up and helping Salvation Army Capt. Bill Simon with the annual The Salvation Army community Thanksgiving luncheon that is being served up today from 10:30 a.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall!

And, we cannot forget Steven Nakata and the Kauai Community College culinary arts department for the stuffing and dessert. Those are only the volunteers that help at the Lihue Thanksgiving feed. Who’s doing the luncheon at The Salvation Army Hanapepe Corps (they’re also serving up lunch from 10:30 a.m. at the Hanapepe Corps social hall!)?
And, for the traditional Thanksgiving meal, mahalo to the Kapaa Interfaith Association for hosting the annual luncheon at the Kapaa All Saints Episcopal Church gym, where Mark Oyama and the Contemporary Flavors Catering ohana has been volunteering for at least 20 years!
All that food gets people ready for Black Friday (check out Rowena Pangan and Anela Pa at the Hoomana Thrift Store in Wailua, where all clothing is just a dollar, and the rest of the store is at least half off, the proceeds helping all of its “participants” become productive members of the community!).
Need a break after the Christmas Craft Fair (what happened to Kauai Handworks)? Check out Sherri Holcomb and the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club for its event Sunday from 11:30 a.m., Sunday that opens the doors to the Hawaiian Slack Key Festival (how many remember Cyril Pahinui performing at these events?).
Happy Turkey Day, Kauai!
