Blood bank requests donations

LIHUE — The Blood Bank of Hawaii announced its schedule of upcoming blood drives, calling on Kauai residents to give “the ultimate gift this holiday season.”

The first drive is Monday, Dec. 3, in the Kauai Community College student lounge between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

On Dec. 4, a drive will be at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The last drive is Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the Kapaa High School library from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

According to the blood bank’s press release, one in seven people entering a hospital in Hawaii will need blood, but only a small fraction — about 2 percent — actually give it.

Donors who give blood in the month of December can enter to win three days and two nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, round-trip airfare and a rental car.
