WAIMEA — Two thousand feet of maze — filled with ghouls, clowns, and creepy crawlies!
“Last year, we measured it,” said Kapiolani Ching, one of the organizers of Nightmare in Waimea. “It was about 2,000 feet. This year appears to be the same, but with different creatures.”
The Tow Truck presents Nightmare in Waimea, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Waimea Canyon Park where traces of the mazes started to sprout Wednesday.
Non-scary version opens from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on all three nights, and the Scary version runs from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
“We’ll also have movies on the lawn Friday and Saturday,” Ching said. “That will start when the sun goes down, say maybe 7:30 to 8 p.m.”
Admission is free. A donation of canned good is encouraged.
“We’ve gotten a lot of food in previous Nightmares,” said Kaniela Young. “The food goes to local community nonprofits like Nana’s House, the churches, and the food bank.”
There will also be food coordinated by Fred Oligo and the West Kauai Professional and Business Association. There will also be a photobooth as well as assorted family games.
Marlene Kali, one of the charter organizers, said the event started about 10 years ago when the first Nightmare was held at the former Waimea Dairy. From there, the Nightmares hopped around town before settling in at the Waimea Canyon Park, which has enough space to accomodate the mazes and the movies on the lawn.
This sounds like a scary place to be. Happy Halloween. Haa…haa…ooh…oooh…haa..
